RuPaul’s Drag Race icon, cosmetics mogul, recording artist, DJ, and real estate businesswoman Trixie Mattel can now add another title to her multi-hyphenate career: Emergency makeup first-responder.
The drag superstar revealed in a recent TikTok video (below) that a chance interaction with talk show legend Jay Leno led to one of the most unexpected developments of her career while she and Leno both attended a Nov. 22 Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR ) benefit event in Las Vegas.
Trixie, 35, explained in the video that she was hired by Paramount to DJ at the event, and that she was informed while she was there that Leno, 75, was also present.
“I was like, ‘Yeah, I saw on the news he’s all bruised up, he was in an accident.’ They were like, ‘Well, do you have any makeup, and could you help him? He has to do a carpet,'” Trixie said.
Trixie said she then offered her services to see if she could help Leno. Her video then cuts to a shot of her in a pink robe, bent over slightly while she applied makeup to Leno’s face to cover bruising from a Nov. 16 accident that sent him tumbling down what he estimated to be at least a 60-foot hill outside of his hotel in Pittsburgh.
“I’m helping him, he’s super sweet, he’s super helpful, the bruising is kind of covering up,” Trixie explained. “Luckily, I had kind of the right products.”

“I’m like, okay, great, we did it,” Trixie continued. “I wake up the next day to this TMZ [headline] that is so funny. ‘Jay Leno fresh-faced and looking more upbeat.'”
She explained that she “was kind of in a hurry,” but admitted that his face “does look better in the before-and-after” images the outlet used in their reporting.
“It was just so funny,” Trixie finished. “I thought of my grandpa and grandma watching him every night. Life is crazy!”
Entertainment Weekly has reached out to representatives for Trixie and Leno for additional comment.
In a recent interview with Graham Bensinger, Leno further elaborated on the November incident that left his eye bruised and also led to a broken wrist.
“People get banged up in real jobs all the time,” Leno admitted when asked about carrying on with his Pennsylvania gig after the fall. “I had a show to do, an audience waiting there. What? Do you go, ‘Excuse me, I banged my head?'”

He said that his “eye sealed shut” and that he initially thought he might be “blind in one eye” as a result, but maintained that he’s “still going to be a comedian,” bruises and all.
