It’s a sad fact of life that certain Disney World attractions inevitably find themselves on the chopping block at some time or another.
With certain long-standing attractions shuttering their doors to make way for new, exciting park additions like Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railroad or Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, it’s always heartbreaking when familiar favorites are forced to close in the name of ongoing park progress.
Every once in a while, however, a beloved Disney attraction will once again reopen to the public, inviting guests in years, sometimes decades, after their initial closing date.
Such is the lucky fate that has befallen The Magic of Disney Animations, one of the original park attractions to open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in the summer of 1989.
In its earliest incarnation, The Magic of Disney Animations offered park attendees a chance to get a backstage preview at the process behind a Disney animated film, complete with a firsthand look at the company’s animators at work.
Though routinely hailed as one of the most inventive and original attractions at Hollywood Studios, the attraction eventually closed down to make way for the Star Wars Launch Bay, an interactive walkthrough featuring props, costumes and concept art from the original Star Wars films.
With the Launch Bay set to permanently close on September 25, Disney has recently revealed their plans to revive The Magic of Disney Animations in 2026, spelling out a rare return for an attraction 10 years after it initial closed.
“Walt Disney Animation Studios in Burbank, California, is a place of pure magic – artists go in… beloved characters and films come out. Now, imagine stepping inside those iconic walls and seeing Disney Animation characters leap off the screen and into our world,” Disney Parks Blog said in an official statement.
“Disney Animation artists and Walt Disney Imagineers are working hand-in-hand to bring the wonder and nostalgia of Disney Animation films to the whole courtyard in new and immersive ways families will love,” the notice continued. “We can’t wait for you to experience this fantastical place in 2026.”
