Dierks Bentley’s teenage daughter is dating, and he’s…fine with it.
Dierks recently appeared on Taste of Country Nights and told host Evan Paul that his 16-year-old daughter, Evie, has started dating.
Dierks once envisioned himself as “the dad on the porch with the shotgun, you know, cleaning it off” as he questioned the young boy’s intentions for his baby girl.
Instead, Dierks says he’s glad to see Evie get out in the world. “You know, these kids are on their devices a lot, they’re Snapchatting a lot, I’m more like, ‘Okay, let’s get the ball rolling here, you know, let’s get some action here,’” he said, according to The Boot.
“I look back at what I was doing back then,” explained. “I don’t want them doing all that stuff, but I definitely want them to be living their lives.”
“The phone is such a time killer and a life killer, and I want them to be out there doing stuff, even if it means they’re getting a little crazy,” he added.
Dierks famously sang about clashing with a girlfriend’s father on his debut single, 2003’s “What Was I Thinking.” In the chart-topping hit, Dierks recalled how the girl’s “daddy came out wavin’ that 12 gauge. We tore out the drive, he peppered my tailgate.”
While it doesn’t sound like Dierks is going to “pepper” any boy’s tailgate soon, the 49-year-old country icon did admit there’s one aspect of his daughter’s social life that bugs him: how late she stays up.
“You know, the hard thing now is like, my daughter had this really nice boy over the house the other night,” he said. “They watched a movie upstairs, and it’s like 11:30 [p .m], and I’m like, ‘dude, I’m ready to go to bed.’”
In April, Dierks shared some exciting career news. The “Somewhere on a Beach” singer said he was making something that should resonate with people who are “imperfect, individual, and sometimes, even a little messed up.” The news left fans “super excited.”
