Dermot Mulroney was all laughs when asked about conducting any threesome research ahead of filming for Netflix’s new series, Hunting Wives.
“Oh, you’re naughty! That’s the right kind of question,” Mulroney, 61, replied to Page Six in an interview published on Sunday, August 10, before clarifying that, no, he didn’t do any so-called “research.”
Mulroney gushed over the fan response of the eight-part series, which has been No. 1 on Netflix. “It’s brought so much joy to people already. So fun to be a part of,” he said.
“I think maybe we haven’t had, like, campy sizzle for a little while,” he continued. “The show just really caught people right in the funny bone, and you know, whatever other bones you want to mention.”

The Hunting Wives is based on May Cobb’s book of the same name, following Sophie (Brittany Snow) after her move from Boston to an East Texas town. Sophie falls into the orbit of socialite Margo (Malin Åkerman), where there’s guns, drinking, murder and an undeniable chemistry between the pair. Mulroney, meanwhile, plays wealthy oil tycoon Jed Banks — and Margo’s politically aspirational but far-from-conventional husband.
Despite being an adaptation, Hunting Wives took some liberties with the plot points onscreen.
“[Creator] Rebecca [Cutter] and May Cobb have a really great relationship. They’ve been talking a lot and May was kind of like, ‘Go for it,’” Åkerman, 47, exclusively told Us Weekly in July about the TV changes. “She was on set and was really elated to see her characters come to life and really loved the direction that Rebecca went in with the characters and the changes.”
Åkerman noted that the cast was pleased to receive the author’s “stamp of approval” when it came to the show.

“It’s fun to have some of the changes from the book so that people who are fans of the story can go along and be surprised as well. Hopefully it’s not too far gone where it doesn’t veer too far off the book so that they know the characters,” Åkerman told Us. “I read the scripts before I read the book, so my bias might be the other way around. But again, I just feel like we get the essence of the characters. We get the world and I hope that fans will like it who’ve read the book.”
Cutter, meanwhile, is thinking ahead to season 2. In an interview with Variety, Cutter teased that there would be “a little bit of a time jump — not a year, but a time” and hinted that “it would be smart” to have a new murder mystery. She added, “I don’t know whodunit yet or who got done!”
