Some reality TV kisses are a little too real for Dave Franco and Alison Brie.
Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the Los Angeles premiere of their new film, Together, the couple opened up about how they bring the steamy smooches from some iconic reality dating shows into their relationship — often to less-than-desirable outcomes.
“You know what traumatizes Dave in terms of making out?” Brie, 42, said. “Is that sometimes if we’re watching a reality show like The Bachelor or Love Island…”
“…And there’s these first kisses that are sometimes a little sloppy or a little awkward,” Franco, 40, chimed in. “She always wants to recreate them on me.”

Brie explained that when they’re watching these shows, she will “pause the TV, turn to Dave, and go, ‘Let me do that kiss on you.'”
“I think it’s funny,” she added. “It makes him very uncomfortable, and it makes me laugh so much.”
Franco joked, “It’s not my favorite thing!”
The couple, who have been married since 2017, previously opened up about being each other’s sources of inspiration.
At a screening of Together at the 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival in Austin, Texas, in March, Brie told Franco during an exclusive interview with PEOPLE that she finds it “very attractive” seeing him work on set.
“I am always so in awe of you when we’re on set together,” she said.
Franco echoed her praises, saying, “We just gain more and more respect for each other.”
“We are getting to watch each other do new things,” Brie continued. “I’m endlessly impressed by the amount that Dave pushes himself outside of his comfort zone.”
The couple also praised each other’s physicality in Together, with Brie calling Franco’s work “truly inspiring” and Franco admiring how much Brie was “throwing her body around in ways that she probably shouldn’t.”
Together is the couple’s first time sharing the screen together since 2017’s The Little Hours and The Disaster Artist.
Brie and Franco play Tim and Millie in the film, a couple “years into their relationship” who “find themselves at a crossroads as they move to the country, abandoning all that is familiar in their lives except each other,” per the film’s synopsis.

The synopsis continues, “With tensions already flaring, a nightmarish encounter with a mysterious, unnatural force threatens to corrupt their lives, their love, and their flesh.”
The horror film is written and directed by first-time filmmaker Michael Shanks.
