‘General Hospital’ Actor Cameron Mathison Addresses ‘Aggressive’ Backlash From Fans originally appeared on Parade.
Cameron Mathison is still getting used to playing a bad guy on TV.
The soap opera actor has been playing Drew Cain on General Hospital since 2021, but it wasn’t until lately that his character’s actions have started to have real-life consequences for Mathison, 55.

During a recent appearance Jennifer Hudson‘s talk show, Mathison opened up about some of the “aggressive” treatment he’s been getting from fans of the popular soap over his character’s questionable behavior in recent episodes.
“I heard people got a problem with your character,” Hudson said during the Tuesday, July 29 episode of her eponymous talk show, to which Mathison cheekily replied, “I’ve heard that too.”
“I’ve almost only played like the good guy, the hero in almost everything I’ve done, so in the last eight months it’s been quite different for Drew,” he explained, noting that there have been “many times” that he has experienced “a lot of aggression” from fans of the show.

“One time in particular at a supermarket, somebody recognized me and was very excited to meet [me] and then quickly shifted and was like, ‘I hate what Drew Cain’s doing,’ and grabbed an apple and threw an apple at me from across the produce section.”
“That was new for me,” he said reflecting on the experience, before adding that things “could be worse.”
But Hudson tried reminding viewers that Mathison isn’t responsible for his character’s choices, while urging her Instagram followers, “Please don’t throw apples at @cameronmathison!”
“Seperate [sic] the character from the actor people 😔” another user added in the comments.
General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC.
