Damson Idris debuted two outfits on the carpet at the 2025 Met Gala

The second, a custom Tommy Hilfiger suit, fit the “Tailored for You” dress code, which was a nod to the event’s “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” theme
Damson Idris went sporty for his appearance at the 2025 Met Gala — literally.
The F1 actor, 33, attended the event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday, May 5, and had a show-stopping outfit reveal before ascending the carpet.
Idris first wore an F1-inspired outfit, which drew inspiration from the racing costumes that he and his costar, Brad Pitt, wear in the sports movie.
The custom Tommy Hilfiger look consisted of a fitted white race suit — adorned with logos by Hilfiger, Mercedes-Benz, Shark and Ninja electronics, software company Expensify and more — that he accessorized with a red, white and black racing helmet that sparkled with almost 20,000 hand-placed Swarovski crystals.
Idris gave photographers a moment on the carpet to capture his racing outfit before two assistants tore the suit away to show off a completely different ensemble underneath.
The actor’s dramatic reveal gave way to a second custom look by Tommy Hilfiger, consisting of a rouge tuxedo that offered a contemporary take on Tommy Tartan.

The tuxedo jacket featured a red and gold tartan print along with red satin lapels. Idris paired the jacket with matching interior vest, a crisp white button down shirt and flared tuxedo pants with a satin side stripe.
The actor completed the look with a bespoke emerald brooch and jewelry from his own line, DIDRIS.
Ahead of the Met Gala, the actor spoke with PEOPLE exclusively about DIDRIS coming to life and revealed the sweet connection the line has to his mother.

“DIDRIS is a homage to my mother and me really picking up where she left off with her dream and passion, which she sacrificed to raise all of us,” Idris explained, noting that he used to be caught “stealing from her jewelry box.”
He added, “I made this collection because I wanted to have a brand that represented how I dress and the type of jewelry I buy and I wanted to exist in a space that people like me don’t usually exist.”

The 2025 Met Gala theme, as well as its corresponding exhibition, is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” It takes inspiration from guest curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, which explores “the Black dandy as both a concept and an identity signifier.”
The Met Gala’s dress code for 2025 was “Tailored for You,” a nod to the spring 2025 exhibition’s focus on menswear and suiting.

This year’s Met Gala marks the actor’s second time attending the annual fundraiser. Idris made his debut in 2022, which celebrated the opening of the “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” exhibit at the Costume Institute.
For that event, the budding star wore a sleek custom suit by dunhill and was accompanied by the brand’s creative director, Mark Weston. The dress code that year was “Gilded Glamour, White Tie,” a nod to the extravagant styles of clothing worn during the Gilded Age.
