Craig Melvin turned 46 on May 20. As he was in Florida for a special taping of the TODAY Show, he missed his birthday broadcast. But his family made sure that his birthday was honored in style.
Lindsay posted a happy birthday tribute to her husband of 14 years on Instagram on May 20, detailing how much Craig means to their family and giving fans a look into what antics went on to commemorate his big day.
“When you reflect on your last year of life (as we know you do on your birthday each year) we hope you know how much you meant to us!” she wrote in the caption. “You just being you is always enough. Happy Birthday to the best husband, dad, friend, brother, son ever. We adore you.”
The first photo showed Craig, Lindsay and their two children Delano, 11, and Sybil, 8, all with wide smiles at a basketball game.
The second post in the carousel was a home video by Sybil from Craig’s birthday celebration, where his family decided to stray from the traditional birthday norm of a cake.
“We’re about to bring the pie out,” Sybil whispers to the camera before facing it to the doorway where Delano is watching his mom bring out a pie with lit candles atop it. Everyone then begins singing happy birthday. The video cuts to Lindsay placing the pie in front of Craig — who is sitting next to his mom, Betty Jo — as he says “awe, well, that looks nice guys.”
Sybil then turns the camera on her dad, demanding that he smile as she pans to a close up of his face.
“That’s so close,” he says with a smile. Although Sybil clearly didn’t think his smile was good enough as she told him to smile again.
“I’m smiling,” Craig says before making a funny face, opening his mouth and eyes wide before the video cuts off.
The final photo in Lindsay’s post shows Delano, Craig and Sybil smiling together — assumingly good enough for Sybil’s standards.
Craig is an extremely proud dad to his kids, writing in the children’s book he published in May 2024 entitled “I’m Proud of You” that being a parent gives him “a sense of purpose.”
“When I wake up in the morning, part of the reason I work so hard is for you and your sister,” Craig told Delano during a TODAY interview where his son got to be the journalist.
Craig’s work family got in on the celebration during a visit to Universal Epic Universe in Orlando, Florida, where they filmed TODAY on May 21. Co-anchor Savannah Guthrie posted to her Instagram stories a photo of herself, Al Roker, Dylan Dreyer and Jenna Bush Hager smiling while posing behind Craig. Her caption: “bday celebration for our main man.”
