Controversial Actor Ezra Miller Makes Rare Appearance Two Years After Past Allegations originally appeared on Parade.
It’s been roughly two years since several serious allegations came out against Flash actor Ezra Miller, ranging in scope from grooming and assault allegations to claims of harassment and burglary.
More recently, however, the 32-year-old actor best known for their roles in the DCEU and J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts franchise made a rare red carpet appearance for the Cannes Film Festival premiere of Die My Love from director Lynne Ramsay.
In the past, Miller and Ramsay had worked together on the notably well-received psychological horror film, We Need to Talk About Kevin. Released in theaters in 2011, the film follows an ordinary mother (Tilda Swinton) who begins to suspect her young son (Miller) is a callous sociopath in the making.
In a previous interview shedding light on their Cannes appearance, Miller told the Italian publication Lo Speciale Giornale that they were there specifically to honor Ramsay, who Miller called “one of the greatest living filmmakers.”
“That’s a tough reentry point,” Miller said of their appearance at Cannes. “If you’ve been in the woods for three years, I do not recommend going straight to Cannes. But yeah, I did that for Lynne. I would do anything for Lynne.”
The former Fantastic Beasts actor also mentioned that they and Ramsay were once again collaborating on an upcoming film, which Miller hopes will mark their return to mainstream cinema.
“I’m working with her again, that will likely be the first thing I do. It’s a film that her and I are writing together,” Miller revealed. “And I came to Cannes because she asked me to come, and if there’s anything I really still believe in in my life, it’s devotion to one’s people, one’s loved ones … above all else.”
In the early 2020s, Miller had faced several serious allegations that all but destroyed their career in Hollywood. In addition to accusations of disorderly conduct, harassment and second-degree assault, Miller was accused of engaging in inappropriate behavior with an 18-year-old within the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation and a 12-year-old in Massachussetts.
Speaking with Lo Speciale Giornale, Miller publicly addressed these various allegations, saying, “When you work in this industry, you will find yourself in deep relation with a lot of people who do not give a single f**k about you or your well being at all. And so, not that I don’t hold a lot of remorse or lamentation for a lot of things that I did and a lot of things that happened in that time, but I’m really grateful for the lessons that came with that abyss.”
