Flair shares that her dad just told her to be herself
For Charlotte Flair, it comes in handy to have a wrestling pro dad.
The WWE star, 39, spoke with PEOPLE at Fanatics Fest this past weekend and shared that her dad, wrestling legend Ric Flair, 76, has given her some great advice in the past. When asked what’s been the best thing he’s shared, Charlotte said it’s to just be yourself.
“People genuinely are attracted to authenticity, so always be yourself. Believe in who you are,” Charlotte told PEOPLE. “I mean, he is who he is day in and day out and is unapologetic about it.”

It’s been an emotional year for Flair, who filed for divorce from her ex-husband, whose real name is Manuel Alfonso Andrade Oropeza, on June 18, 2024. A judge finalized their divorce on Oct. 10, 2024, PEOPLE confirmed on Feb. 5. TMZ was the first to report the news.
Andrade and Flair started dating in 2019 and were engaged by January 2020. They tied the knot in May 2022 in El Idolo’s hometown, Torreón, Mexico.
In April, Flair, whose real name is Ashley Fliehr, spoke candidly about navigating her split from her ex-husband in the public eye during an appearance on Sherri.
“I felt like I was failing at my job, I felt like I was failing in my personal life,” Flair said emotionally, sharing that “the embarrassment of being divorced again” and “being compared” to her father, who announced he and his fifth wife Wendy Barlow were splitting in September.
Flair shared that she had been afraid of feeling “shame” and hearing the public’s opinion on her divorce. “Everyone has an opinion, even though they don’t know the facts,” she told Shepherd.

Now that she’s moving on to her next chapter, Flair said she feels like she’s living her “redemption story” post-divorce. “The WWE audience hasn’t gotten to see the comeback of Charlotte Flair,” she said. “This wasn’t a Charlotte Flair redemption story, but for me, it is a redemption story.”
Charlotte has previously explained that she initially struggled in the WWE because, as she said, “I didn’t look the part.” Unlike her father Ric, who was known for his glamour, Charlotte explained that she “didn’t have the extra swag” at the beginning of her career.
She needed to break through the “just a tall blonde” stereotype, something her dad didn’t have to deal with.
“He’s never shied away or apologized for being who he is. When you are your true, authentic self, you can’t deny that,” Charlotte told PEOPLE. “And I think that’s what makes him transcend the times and be so popular today is because when he says he’s Ric Flair, he is Ric Flair.”
