Great American Family star Candace Cameron Bure loves interacting with her fans online, but one of the drawbacks is that sometimes the people she has to interact with aren’t “fans” and are instead internet trolls.
But she responded the only way she knows how — with love! — on Monday, May 19, when one commenter told her she looks “really old.”
On her Instagram stories, Cameron Bure shared a screengrab of a message a follower wrote that says, “U look really old here… not aging well?”
It does not look like the 49-year-old actress responded to the commenter directly, but she did have this to say on her Instagram stories:
“I receive countless messages like this on the daily. As much as I love connecting on social media, this is one of the downfalls. I’m a middle age woman and can handle rude people. Imagine how this affects our children.”
The former Hallmark star wrote a follow-up post to clarify that she was not fishing for compliments or sympathy; she just wants people to understand that bullying is not OK, no matter who you are bullying.
“I shared the last post not for sympathy but to show the kinds of messages I receive daily. DAILY! Aging is sensitive. Comments like this hurt, no matter whether they are meant to be mean-spirited or just a shared ‘opinion,'” writes Cameron Bure.
She continues, “As I embrace aging, I’m choosing to do it as naturally and as gracefully as possible. I imagine the people who write these kinds of messages are reflecting what they are personally feeling about their own self to some degree. I feel sad for them and pray for their hearts to know the love of God.”
The Fuller House star ended by saying, “Be kind. Uplift others. Spread joy.”
Cameron Bure is currently on location shooting a new Christmas movie for Great American Family. She has so far kept the title and her co-star kind of a secret, but she did tell fans that true GAF super fans will be able to figure out what the movie is.
