Bono has expanded his memoir to the stage.
Apple TV+ has shared an exclusive trailer with PEOPLE of the singer’s upcoming variety special, Bono: Stories of Surrender.
A “bold and lyrical visual exploration of Bono’s one-man show,” per the press release, will premiere on Friday, May 30, on Apple TV+.
The 22-time Grammy winner created the show based on his successful memoir, Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story. However, the variety show is a reimagined version of his one-man stage show, Stories of Surrender: An Evening of Words, Music, and Some Mischief, which was based on his book.
The upcoming production provides a glimpse into the U2 frontman’s life, from his “family, friends, and faith that have challenged and sustained him.” Fans can expect to learn more about his life as a son, father, husband, activist and rockstar.

Along with learning more about the inner life of the Irish singer, the special will include never-before-seen, exclusive footage from his Beacon Theatre shows. In April and May 2023, the singer completed an 11-show run at the New York City theater, where he performed many of the U2 songs that shaped his life and legacy.
The exclusive footage was filmed by Apple Immersive Video and created a 180-degree video experience that will bring audiences onstage with Bono.

“Turns out, the most extraordinary thing about my life, is the people I’m in relationships with,” he said. Before adding that he met his wife, Ali, the same week he joined U2. He also briefly noted his fraught relationship with both his parents.
“I was born with my fists up. Surrender does not come easy to me,” he said as the trailer comes to a conclusion, “This is my story. I’m stuck with it.”
