ROSÉ from BLACKPINK just made history.
This year, the New Zealand-born South Korean singer earned eight nominations at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. This achievement not only cements her status as one of K-pop’s biggest stars but also breaks the record for the most VMA nominations ever received by a K-pop artist in a single year. The title was originally held by BTS when they received seven nominations in 2021, winning three of those.
The 28-year-old singer was nominated for Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Direction, Best Pop, Best Art Direction and Best Visual Effects for her song “APT.” with Bruno Mars. Plus, her song “toxic till the end” from her album rosie was nominated for Best K-Pop. Her fellow BLACKPINK members — JENNIE, LISA, and JISOO — also scored nominations for tracks from their own debut solo albums: JENNIE’s “like JENNIE,” LISA’s “Born Again (featuring Doja Cat and RAYE)” and JISOO’s “earthquake.”
In the fall of 2023, BLACKPINK decided to take a brief break as a group after the end of their Born Pink World Tour to focus on their solo careers. This past year, each member released their own solo album or EP. ROSÉ released rosie in December 2024, which earned major acclaim from fans and critics.
But now, BLACKPINK is back in your area. This past summer, the K-pop girl group has been on their DEADLINE World Tour, recently performing in Paris, France, this past weekend. They also released their first song together in two years, titled “JUMP,” and the music video hit 100 million views on YouTube on July 25. BLACKPINK will be performing for their fans in Milan on Wednesday.
For this year’s VMA nominations, Lady Gaga leads with 12 nominations, while Bruno Mars follows with 11 and Kendrick Lamar with 10. ROSÉ and Sabrina Carpenter are tied with 8, while Ariana Grande and The Weeknd are tied with seven, Billie Eilish has six while Charli xcx has five. Bad Bunny, Doechii, Ed Sheeran, Jelly Roll, Miley Cyrus and Tate McRae have four each.
The Video Music Awards will air on CBS, Paramount+ and MTV on Sept. 7 at 8 p.m ET/5 p.m. PT.
