‘Big Brother’ Winners Taylor Hale and Derrick Levasseur Will Lead New ‘Unlocked’ Panel Show originally appeared on Parade.
This year, Big Brother celebrated its 25th anniversary. Perhaps in honor of the occasion, CBS revealed last month that the summer reality series would be having its most “supersized” season yet, with 90-minute Wednesday episodes, as well as a new biweekly Friday panel series titled Big Brother: Unlocked. And today, it was revealed that two legendary winners, Derrick Levasseur and Taylor Hale, will be co-hosting the new series, premiering on July 25 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT.
According to a press release from CBS, “Taylor and Derrick will guide viewers through never-before-seen broadcast footage, exclusive interviews and behind-the-scenes moments from inside the Big Brother house. Big Brother: Unlocked will feature recurring segments like ‘BB Fantasy Draft,’ ‘Big Move/Bad Move’ and ‘Binge Worthy or Cringe Worthy.'”

The pair will not be alone, however. Throughout their five-episode run, Taylor and Derrick will be joined by a series of guests, ranging from other previous houseguests to “mystery” celebrities. And, according to the press release, the Big Brother Instagram account will soon be posting clues for the identity of the first celebrity guest of the season. Considering how astute the fans were when the account did the same thing to tease Rachel Reilly entering the house at the end of the Season 27 premiere, they’re well-equipped to take on the case.
Police Sergeant Derrick went undercover in the Big Brother house back in Season 16, where he was able to string together one of the most dominant performances in the show’s history. Despite a staggering four people being nominated every week as part of the brand-new “Battle of the Block” twist, Derrick’s control of the game resulted in him never being nominated until finale night, where he took home the win over number one ally (and future winner) Cody Calafiore. Derrick appeared on our screens earlier this year as part of Season 3 of The Traitors, where he was murdered by fellow Big Brother alum Danielle Reyes.

Taylor had quite a different start to her Big Brother journey by comparison. In Season 24, she immediately became the house pariah and target of several houseguests, getting backdoored in Week 1 and nearly sent out of the house. She made the most of a second chance, however, finding allies and establishing herself as a competitor. Monte Taylor took her to the Final Two, thinking she was beatable. However, Taylor’s underdog narrative, combined with a series of killer jury speeches, earned her a near-unanimous win. She made history as not only the first Black woman to win the non-celebrity version of Big Brother in the U.S., but also the first-ever winner to additionally get the “America’s Favorite Houseguest” audience prize.
Interestingly, the news of Taylor and Derrick hosting Big Brother: Unlocked deviates slightly from the original announcement for the series. Back in May, CBS had stated that the show would feature “three BB All-Stars [offering] never-before-seen broadcast footage from the house, exclusive interviews, surprise guest appearances and unprecedented behind-the-scenes access.” It is entirely possible, however, that a third chair will be occupied by a different alum every episode, in a rotating position.
Suffice it to say, whoever occupies those seats will have plenty to talk about through the first two weeks of Big Brother 27. The opening to the season was full of plenty of drama, with fights and conflict throughout the house. The first eviction vote was far from unanimous, as there seems to be no clear majority. And, of course, with the release of three game-changing powers this past week, plenty is liable to get flipped on its head. And we’ll be happy to have Derrick, Taylor and a slew of special guests give their thoughts along the way.
Big Brother: Unlocked premieres on Friday, July 25 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. Subsequent episodes will air on Aug. 8, Aug. 22, Sept. 5, Sept. 19 and Sept. 26.
