‘Big Brother 27’s Amy Bingham Reveals How She Became the Day 1 ‘Accomplice’ (Exclusive) originally appeared on Parade.
Big Brother’s house is open once more! Every week, Parade’s Mike Bloom will be bringing you interviews with this season’s houseguests as they get evicted from the game.
When Amy Bingham set foot into the Big Brother house, she did so as technically not a houseguest. Rather, her role was as an “accomplice,” set with the mission to sabotage the proceedings to allow the “Mastermind” to temporarily take over the house. Her actions were so covert that she evaded the house vote to determine who the accomplice was, ensuring the insurance agent would become a permanent part of the season. Unfortunately for Amy, that would be the least eyes on her throughout her 17 days in the game.

In the initial hours of the season, Amy immediately connected with Rachel Reilly, joining the “mom squad” with the former winner. And she began to get close to Ashley Hollis, while, ironically, the rest of the house was distancing themselves from her over Night 1 shower drama. Unfortunately for Amy, when she expressed her disapproval of Ashley becoming a pariah to Vince Panaro, he responded in kind by nominating her alongside her. After both the Veto and the “BB Blockbuster,” Amy sat on the block next to Zae Frederich, the target of the “Burger Boys” alliance. But Rachel was able to rally the votes on their side, saving her from the dishonor of being the first evicted.
When Jimmy Heagerty won the next HoH, Amy thought she could take a break from the block. Keanu Soto was consistently causing conflict and making enemies, and Kelley Jorgensen was an outsider, and both were sitting on the block. What nobody could predict, however, were three game-changing powers getting released into the house. Keanu activated his advantage, allowing Season 20 winner Kaycee Clark to compete on his behalf. And, while Amy was saved by a returning player, she was spurned by another, as Kaycee won the Veto for Keanu. Feeling like Amy had been spared from eviction once before, Jimmy put her up as a pawn, much to the disapproval of his allies. And things continued to spiral when Kelley won a second Veto with her own power, and Adrian Rocha came through on the “BB Blockbuster.” Eventually, the outcome was set in stone, as Amy went from narrowly surviving in Week 1 to a unanimous eviction in Week 2.
Now out of the house, Amy talks with Parade about her scathing words to Jimmy out the door, why she thinks Rachel sunk her game and how she ended up becoming the “accomplice.”

There was clearly an emotional pall over the eviction last night. Everyone, including yourself seemed to know, once Adrian won the Blockbuster, you would be going. And that contrasts with you, on the way out the door, yelling, “Jimmy is a snake and a liar.” What made you decide to say that?
Cuz he’s a liar and a manipulator! And I don’t like liars and manipulators. I really don’t. I can’t stand them in real life, and I can’t stand them in the game. And I know it’s the game, but it’s annoying. I just don’t care for him. Although he is charismatic and fun and funny; he’s fun to be around. But I just don’t care for a liar. And he’s mean-spirited at times, and it’s just not nice. I don’t like being around it. So I’m gonna get him out.
Let’s flash back to before you went into the house. How were you picked to be the “accomplice,” and what were you told about the role before the game started?
So two days before I got in the house was when they told me I was going to be the accomplice. The only way I could get in is if no one detected I was the accomplice. So I was like, “Yes, let’s do it. I need to get in. I need to get on the show, in this house, and play this game.” So I got in. No one detected me as the accomplice. Just Rachel’s accomplice, which ruined my game anyway, so I’d rather be the accomplice. I don’t know which was worse.
That’s interesting you knew there would be a vote ahead of time. So did you use any tactics to make sure you weren’t detected? I know Kelley flagged that you were very boisterous that first day.
I was just myself. I was like, “I’m gonna just be dumb. It’ll work.” And I did, because no one figured it out.
Once you become a formal houseguest, you connect with Rachel as both a fan of the game and a fellow mom. Talk to me about that initial bond, and how did it change over the course of your time in the house?
I love Rachel. I think she’s a great person. I was excited to meet her, and that there was another mom in the house, another person my age, another mom my age. So it was kind of nice because everyone in the house is so young. The average age is 27, I think. They could be my kids. And so it was really nice to have someone in a similar age group that understands being a mom, being away from our babies. It’s so difficult in there, and we just have an extra layer of difficulty, I feel like, because we’re already missing our kids.
And God forbid you cry, because then you’re a target. Literally, I was crying about missing my kids the first couple days, and it’s like, “Oh my gosh, you’re going to go on the block if you cry.” What the hell? What’s happening in this house? It’s crazy. It’s a crazy house. Everyone came in; they started playing very hard. That was not what my strategy was going to be. I was just going in just to kind of meet people and see if I trust and like them and want to work with them. But you can’t. You have to go in and play very hard right away. That’s what everyone was doing. And I just didn’t feel like that was the best move, but that’s what they did.
You have mentioned a few times how you feel your association with Rachel caused your nominations and eventual eviction. But I can reveal to you that Rachel actually saved you that first week, and it was more so your relationship with Ashley that damned you. It was most prevalent when you told Vince about how much it would hurt to lose her and your disapproval of “Showergate,” which caused him to put you up. What’s your reaction to that?
Well, it was both. It was both. It was Rachel and Ashley. So I was screwed either way! My son was like, “Mom, don’t align with the wrong people.” And I sure did, go figure. Showergate was so stupid. I’m sorry, but why can’t you take a shower in this house? There’s two showers; go take a shower. I don’t understand why that would ever be a concern or problem. But people are always looking for a reason to make it an issue in that house. You have to have a problem with someone to put you up because they want to escape them being up themselves. So everything is a big deal. And it’s so stupid and ridiculous to me that a shower. I knew the shower was a big thing too, Rachel and the shower. They wanted Ashley out really bad that first week. And I’m so glad she stayed, because I love her and I hope she wins the show. But yeah, I didn’t align with the right side. [Laughs.]
In last night’s episode, we hear Rachel call you the “ultimate pawn.” Did you get a sense that was your perception in the house? And what’s your reaction to that?
I did. I was like, “I am not gonna be the pawn this season!” I can’t win a comp! Okay, I get it. But I’m not gonna be the pawn this season. I don’t want to play the pawn game that much. But, if Rachel had not been in the house, I feel like would have had a completely different Big Brother experience from the start. They might have been bothered about the shower situation. But, I mean, I feel like, really, Rachel was a big problem for most people. That’s what I heard in the house anyway.
To finish, give your rapid-fire thoughts on each of the remaining houseguests. Starting with Adrian.
Sweet.
Ashley.
Love!
Ava.
Oh, I love her! Quirky, cute, all the things.
Jimmy.
Liar, big liar! Manipulator.
Katherine.
Whatever.
I was going to ask, what was your reaction to her goodbye message, when she told you she flipped on the women?
I was kind of shocked, because I didn’t understand what she was talking about. I really wanted to have an all girls alliance get through this game and win together. But I never actually looked at her as being at the bottom of the totem pole, not with me, anyway. So that was her perception of where she felt like I was. But that wasn’t my perception on where I thought she was or where she would have been with me. I didn’t think that at all. So I was really shocked about her message. But someone probably planted that to her because the boys wanted to break up the girls anyway. So who knows? Was it Jimmy? I don’t know. Was he the one who said something to her? Probably Keanu or Jimmy. Keanu is a liar, too. They’re both liars. I’m so happy they have each other. They can try to knock each other out.
On that note, Keanu.
Annoying. He always wants a hug. Like, ew! It’s not bad, but it’s just like, annoying.
Kelley.
Probably annoying too. I thought she was sweet. Actually, from Day 1, I really liked Kelley. I thought we could be friends. And when I smiled at her the first day, I was like, “Oh, this is a sweet girl.” And then after, she started following me around the house. It was weird, like she was trying to find someone else to put up on the block. Anyone I was talking to, she’s like, “Oh, so Adrian let you wear his shirt.” And she would run in a different room. She would make these weird little remarks and plant little seeds of weird things in the house. It was very strange. And I was confused and wondering why she was following me. It was very strange. So I would say “annoying.”
Lauren.
Love! She’s such a sweetheart. What a sweet girl. I’m going to reach out to Buffy, her mama, and tell her she’s doing an amazing job. She’s darling, and I adore her daughter.
Mickey.
She’s cute. I love Mickey now. At first I wasn’t sure about Mickey. I couldn’t get a good read on her the first couple days. But I do love Mickey
Morgan.
She’s good. She’s fine.
Rachel.
I love Rachel!
Rylie.
Oh, I love Rylie! Rylie is the sweetest thing on Earth.
Vince.
He’s fine. He’s just whatever. I just didn’t really care. I know he’s running things behind the scenes. He’s pulling some strings. Him, Jimmy, Mickey, Morgan, they’re really running the house. So he’s doing what he’s doing. I think he’s probably a genuine, good person.
Will.
Will is sweet. He’s a good man. What can I say about Will?
And, finally, Zach.
Zach’s fine. He’s whatever. I mean, he’s probably a good man too. I don’t know. I didn’t really care to build connections with the men in the house so much. I’m such a girl’s girl! I’m here for the girls, and that may be have been part of my downfall. I don’t know.
