‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ Trailer Just Dropped—Meet the New Na’vi Clans Shaking Up Pandora originally appeared on Parade.
It’s finally here and it’s on fire.
Disney and 20th Century Studios dropped the first official trailer for Avatar: Fire and Ash—the third installment in James Cameron’s sci-fi juggernaut—on Monday, July 28.
After premiering exclusively in theaters last week ahead of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the footage has now made its way online, and fans are already losing it over what might be Cameron’s wildest chapter yet.
The trailer reveals two new Na’vi clans. The Ash People, also called the Mangkwan Clan, live near an active volcano and don’t follow Eywa, the spiritual force guiding most Na’vi. They’re led by Varang, a fierce new villain played by Game of Thrones star Oona Chaplin. There’s also the Wind Traders, previously described by Zoe Saldaña—who plays Neytiri—as “a peaceful, nomadic air-traveling clan.”
But peace isn’t exactly what’s on display. The teaser dives into air raids, volcanic terrain, and explosive battle sequences. Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) is seen warning Neytiri, “We cannot live like this,” before being captured and paraded in front of military forces. Meanwhile, Sigourney Weaver’s Kiri appears to be held captive—and Varang delivers a chilling line: “Your goddess has no dominion here.”

Stephen Lang’s Colonel Quaritch is back too, now fully Na’vi and covered in red and black warpaint. Based on what we’ve seen, he might be teaming up with the Ash People. And yes, Spider (Jack Champion)—the human teen who was raised on Pandora and bonded with the Sully family—seems to be in trouble again, just like in The Way of Water.
Shortly after the trailer dropped, the internet reacted fast.

“The teaser to avatar 3 was better than every movie so far in 2025 btw,” one person quipped on X (formerly Twitter).
“Oona Chaplin looks so evil. Oh I’m obsessed with her,” another said.
“James Cameron just reminded every studio who the king of cinematic world-building is. Fire vs water. Ash vs soul. Pandora is no longer paradise — it’s war. This trailer didn’t just give chills, it burned them in,” chimed in a third.

Despite speculation that this might be Cameron’s final Avatar film, the franchise is far from over. Two more sequels are already slated: Avatar 4 is scheduled for release on December 21, 2029, followed by Avatar 5 on December 19, 2031. Last year, the 70-year-old award-winning director confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that he plans to direct both, saying, “Sure. Absolutely. I mean, they’re going to have to stop me. I got plenty of energy, love doing what I’m doing. Why would I not?”
Avatar: Fire and Ash opens in theaters on December 19, 2025.
