The play is expected to debut as part of the 2025 Williamstown Theatre Festival, which runs in Williamstown, Ma., between July 17 and Aug. 3.

The production will mark Heard’s first acting role since 2023, when she starred in the movie In the Fire and made an appearance in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom to reprise her role as the character Mera opposite Jason Momoa’s Aquaman.
Heard, who moved overseas to live in Madrid after her legal battles with ex-husband Johnny Depp concluded in 2022, announced on May 11 that she had welcomed twins. The actress was already a mother to daughter Oonagh Paige, who turned 4 in April.
Heard shared a photo of her children’s feet to Instagram on May 11 as she announced her twins Agnes and Ocean’s births.
“When I had my first baby girl Oonagh four years ago, my world changed forever. I thought I couldn’t possibly burst with more joy,” she wrote in a caption at that time. “Well, now I am bursting times three!!! Becoming a mother by myself and on my own terms despite my own fertility challenges has been the most humbling experience of my life. I am eternally grateful that I was able to choose this responsibly and thoughtfully.”

According to a description of Spirit of the People obtained by Variety, the play “confronts uncomfortable truths about land and what it means to destroy it.”
Harris, 36, told the outlet the production was meant to “challenge” himself after he broke out with Slave Play, which received 12 nominations at the 2021 Tony Awards.
“The play is half in Spanish, and I don’t speak Spanish. The play has a significant level of prose within it,” Harris told the outlet. “I’m not a prose writer. I’m trying a lot of different things.”
Heard’s new play Spirit of the People will be performed at the Williamstown Theatre Festival at all three of the festival’s weekends; the festival runs between July 17 and Aug. 3.
