Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman’s Practical Magic 2 will release in theaters in September 2026

Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock’s long-awaited Practical Magic sequel is one step closer to release.
On Tuesday, May 6, Warner Bros. announced that Kidman and Bullock’s upcoming movie, a sequel to their 1998 witchy romantic drama, will hit theaters Sept. 18, 2026. The news comes just under one year after Kidman, 57, confirmed that she and Bullock, 60, would reprise their roles as sister duo Gillian Owens and Sally Owens in the movie during an interview with PEOPLE.
“Tooth of wolf and morning dew / something old and something new / let the spell begin to mix / September 18, 2026,” Bullock and Kidman’s voices say in a short video Warner Bros. shared to Instagram. “The spell is cast. The date is set. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman return,” the streamer wrote in a caption to the post, which also reminded viewers the original movie is streaming on Max.

PEOPLE first reported that Kidman and Bullock were in talks to star in a Practical Magic sequel in June of last year.

The original Practical Magic film, based on the 1995 novel by Alice Hoffman, follows sisters Gillian and Sally, who learn that men they grow romantically involved with keep dying due to a family curse. They then join forces to ward off that curse, which was meant to keep any women in their family from ever falling in love.
In August 2024, one of the movie’s producers, Denise Di Novi, told PEOPLE that the team behind the new sequel “gets how important the first movie is to so many people, women in particular, and we want to honor that for sure.”

“There’s a joyousness to that movie, and there’s such beautiful themes of sisterhood and family and acceptance, tolerance, love,” Di Novi, 69, said at that time. “Just the title that Alice Hoffman, the amazing author, thought of that’s now become part of the vernacular of Practical Magic is that there’s magic in daily life, in love, in family, in sisterhood. It’s magical, and we all have our gifts, and women have very particular and specific gifts. We really want to honor all of that.”
The original Practical Magic also starred Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest as Kidman and Bullock’s on-screen aunts, as well as Goran Visnjic, Aidan Quinn, Evan Rachel Wood and Peter Shaw.
For Bullock, Practical Magic 2 will mark her first big screen role since 2022. PEOPLE recently confirmed that she will also reunite with Speed costar Keanu Reeves for an upcoming romantic thriller with Amazon MGM Studios.
