As the son of Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan and actress-model Nicole Muirbrook, Gus Sheridan’s upbringing is something out of a movie.
Shortly after welcoming their son in 2010, Sheridan and Muirbrook left California and relocated to Texas.
“I didn’t want to raise my son in L.A. and I didn’t want to have to look him in the eye and tell him I couldn’t take him to a baseball game because I had an audition for a Windex commercial,” Sheridan told the Austin American-Statesman in 2017 of why he gave up his career as an actor and left Hollywood before pivoting to screenwriting.
The family now splits their time between their two ranches: the Bosque Ranch and the iconic 6666 Ranch, also known as the “Four Sixes Ranch.” In addition to being working ranches, they also served as backdrops in Paramount’s Yellowstone.
“I have a traditional sort of family,” Sheridan told the Television Academy in 2022. “But family is whatever you claim it to be. It’s protecting those you love and them doing the same for you.”
Here is everything to know about Taylor Sheridan’s son, Gus.

Sheridan and Muirbrook welcomed their son, Gus, on Sept. 23, 2010. When he was a toddler, the family of three moved to Texas to plant roots.
“My wife’s from up in Wyoming and my mother lives up there, so we moved there for a number of years, until I finally convinced her to come try my home state,” he told Cowboys & Indians in 2020. “And I moved her to Texas on August 1, because I figured I might as well just pull the Band-Aid off quick.”
He added, “She didn’t understand the heat for a bit, but then she figured it out, and now she’s a Texan.”

Gus is immersed in ranch life as the family owns two Texas ranches. They purchased Bosque Ranch in Weatherford as their primary residence, and Sheridan later bought the iconic 6666 Ranch as part of an investment group in 2021.
“It’s a love affair with the land of West Texas,” he told Fort Worth Magazine in 2022. “There’s a tremendous amount of discipline that it takes to build a ranch like this. It takes strength, excellence, integrity, and faith, and that’s the main mission statement of the ranch.”
Both ranches have appeared in Yellowstone.

Gus seems to enjoy ranch life and “loves” everything Texas has to offer, according to his mom.
“He’s never on his phone. He’s never on his X-Box,” Muirbrook told COWGIRL Magazine in 2021. “He’s always outside with the dogs, fishing with his buds, or roller-skating in the barn. He also ropes, so he’s often on horseback. He’s just always doing something.”

Gus has grown up watching his dad write hit films and TV shows, such as 1923, Tulsa King, 1883, Sicario and Yellowstone.
He has even been able to visit his dad on the job, including when he was filming in New Mexico in 2019. Muirbrook shared a throwback photo of Gus smiling in the director’s chair on Instagram, writing, “Set with Dad.”
Gus also appeared in his dad’s 2017 film, Wind River, which Sheridan wrote and directed. Gus, who was around 5 years old at the time, made a cameo as a classmate.

Sheridan got his Hollywood start in front of the camera, landing roles on shows such as Veronica Mars and CSI before playing the recurring role of Deputy Chief David Hale in FX’s Sons of Anarchy.
“The plan was always to become a big movie star, then move back to a ranch and just do movies with Martin Scorsese when I felt like it,” he joked to The Hollywood Reporter in 2023. “But that wasn’t my path.”
While renegotiating his salary after the second season of Sons of Anarchy, “I had one idea, and the studio had a different idea,” he told Deadline in 2018. “Everyone on the show was making twice what I’m making, the other series regulars.”
Unable to reach an agreement, Sheridan left the show, and his character was killed off. He used that experience as a pivotal moment in his career, taking up screenwriting and telling the stories he wanted to tell.
“I think the thing that really changed my perspective on my career was getting married and having a child,” he told Cowboys & Indians in 2020. “And then, really thinking about how I am going to raise that child. And if that child is going to look up to me, what is he looking up to me for? It made me reflect on my career very deeply.”
