Dave Franco plays a version of himself in The Studio

In the Apple TV+ comedy’s season 1 finale, an extremely inebriated Franco, 39, recapped the moments from the penultimate episode

“It wasn’t in the script. But it’s a drunk Dave Franco describing what happened in the previous episode,” star and co-creator Seth Rogen tells PEOPLE
The idea to have an extremely inebriated Dave Franco recap the ridiculous events of the penultimate episode of The Studio to kick off the season finale was a rather last-minute one.
A totally out-of-hand voiceover by Franco begins the final episode, which premiered on May 21, and reminds the audience about the chaos of the penultimate episode, during which the party Seth Rogen’s character threw got completely out of hand, putting the studio’s big CinemaCon presentation at risk.
Rogen tells PEOPLE that having Franco introduce the finale episode is his “favorite,” but it was such a last-minute addition that his costars Ike Barinholtz, Kathryn Hahn, Catherine O’Hara and Chase Sui Wonders didn’t even know the voiceover existed until their interview with PEOPLE.
“He does the recap of the ‘previously on the episode.’ And they probably haven’t seen it because it wasn’t in the script,” Rogen, 43, says, explaining the addition to his costars. “But it’s a drunk Dave Franco describing what happened in the previous episode.”
“We show clips from Now You See Me in the ‘previously on’,” he explains to an excited Barinholtz, Hahn, O’Hara and Wonders. “It’s very silly. It’s very funny.”

Franco, 39, had the same attitude for the voiceover as he did for the rest of his appearances on the series — he was totally game for anything.
“[The voiceover] was literally me — I had that idea and texted him and sent it to him and he recorded it on his phone within 10 minutes.”
In the voiceover, Franco introduces himself and admits right off the bat that he’s “a little f—– up, but I’m gonna do my best to recap the last episode because a lot of s— went down.”
He reminds viewers that Griffin (Bryan Cranston) told Matt (Rogen) in episode 9 that Continental Studios “is gonna be bought by f—— Amazon and they’re gonna lose their jobs, man,” but if the team can “f——- crush the presentation, they can stop the sale and save their jobs.”
He also recapped the “wicked party” Matt threw, “where Zoë Kravitz and the gang do way too many shrooms, especially Griffin, who’s so f—– up it’s f——- scary, man.”

The episode left off with Patty (O’Hara), who “doesn’t know about the sale to Amazon,” calling “entertainment journalist Matt Belloni” and trying to get him to “come see Griffin all messed up so she can get revenge on him for firing her,” as Franco said.
He concluded the voiceover with a hilarious nod to Now You See Me and a clip of his character Jack Wilder throwing cards like a pro as he said, “Now listen, I gotta hit the tables and win tons of f——- money, cause I can count cards and s—- from those magic movies I was in. So enjoy the f——- episode! Vegas, baby!”
