  • Influencer Tamara Kalinic purchased an Alaïa dress worth $16,050

  • Kalinic posted a try-on of the dress to her social media profiles and asked her followers if they thought the dress was worth the price tag

  • Her followers had mixed opinions, with some saying it looks like a lampshade

Adding a designer piece of clothing to a wardrobe can sometimes be all it takes to create an incredible outfit — but often, it comes with a hefty price tag that leaves the average person gawking.

Influencer Tamara Kalinic took to Instagram and TikTok to ask her followers if her recent fashion purchase is worth its high price tag.

“I just ordered the most insane dress and we need to try and we need to check if it’s worth 12,000 euros,” she said in a Reel posted to her Instagram account on May 5, while showing Alaïa’s symmetric jersey bustier dress in beige.

By holding up the Alaïa dress — which notably retails for $16,050 in the United States — Kalinic showed that the optical illusion piece contained an inner boning around the bust and waist that allowed it to stand up straight.

After trying on the dress, the shape became even more visible — the top portion of her dress wrapped around her bust and held up her chest due to the presence of its invisible boning. The top coiled down into a layered skirt with flowing ruffled fabric that grazed her knees and calves.

“This is very secure, and this you can see where you want to place it,” Kalinic added, after completing the outfit with brown peep-toe heels. “What do you think? Is it insane? Or not really?”

Users in the comments section of Kalinic’s post were divided in opinion — some liked the idea of the dress, while others believed the item resembled a lamp or could be purchased from a lower-cost store.

“If you told me this dress came from SHEIN I would believe it,” a user wrote. Another person commented, “I was sure I was the only one who thought this was a fancy lamp shade and also don’t like it as a dress.”

One user even referenced a popular home furnishing retailer: “What in the IKEA lighting section is this?” the person wondered, amassing over 23,600 “likes.”

Others had more positive responses for the influencer. “I love the color, and if it was just from the front, then yes. But make it a normal dress 😂 but as it is in whole, NO,” one user commented.

The constructive criticism continued with a user suggesting, “your top right side just needed a bit more coverage to look harmonious, I love the idea of the dress, though.”

The video didn’t conclude with Kalinic revealing if she kept the dress or not — but a May 6 update to her Tiktok showed that she kept it in her wardrobe, at least for one more video.

“Need to improve my posture, so I bought this Alaïa dress to help me,” she captioned a video of her wearing the dress, this time, with matching beige shoes.
