One of General Hospital’s newest stars, Asher Antonyzyn, has made waves as Danny Morgan, the son of Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) and Samantha McCall (Kelly Monaco). The breakout actor took a moment to reflect on securing the part and what it was like playing out some of the heavy material that he’s been given.
Speaking to Soap Hub, Antonzyn described how he became an actor, sharing, “it was kind of a quick decision. I was maybe 12 years old, about two or three years ago, my mom saw a Facebook ad for a casting call for a modeling agency back in Chicago. I was like yeah, I’ll try it out. I went for maybe a year of classes, and I was like “yeah this is actually pretty fun.” Then I went out to a modeling acting convention out here in L.A. called the IMTAs and I did pretty good and that’s where I found that I really like doing what I’m doing. I got my manager and some agents, and they got me the audition for General Hospital and that’s kind of how it all fell together.”
Antonzyn explained he didn’t know what the storyline for his character was going to be going in, sharing, “I really didn’t know much going in. I did my research going into the in-person audition but no I didn’t think my character would have such a big storyline or that i’d play this much of an important character.”
Discussing playing the loss of his on-screen Mother, Antonzyn continued, “I haven’t really had like a big traumatic experience to look back on. I talked to Steve Burton who plays Jason, he’s like you’re going to have to go somewhere else into like a fantasy land where you got to think that’s your real mom. Kelly Monaco one of the first actors I ever worked with so there was a huge piece that was genuine. Her leaving the show where she was basically my second mom, which really meant a lot to me, so I worked with my acting coach, Holly Gier, and then she helped me get into those states and do my own little things in my brain that helped me get to that area.”
General Hospital airs weekdays at 2 p.m. ET on ABC and streams weeknights on Hulu.
