Watch out, Carson Daly—Blake Shelton might just be the next great talk show personality.
While appearing on the Today show for the Tuesday, May 13 broadcast, the country crooner filled in for Daly on his 30-minute show PopStart while the TV personality was out of office to film The Voice on the West Coast—and it’s safe to say Shelton didn’t leave room for a single dull moment.

In a montage clip of his visit to the Today show studio, Shelton could be seen during several different chaotic moments throughout the broadcast, including a video of him fumbling through the pronunciation of “Popstart,” which he hilariously referred to as “poptart.”
While sitting down with Today personalities Savannah Guthrie, Dylan Dreyer, Jenna Bush Hager and Craig Melvin, Shelton kept things interesting with a number of silly comments, like revealing he watched “most” of Wicked, making an unsure “hmm” sound when asked if he would ever return to The Voice, and, at one point, quipping, “let’s change the music one more time,” when it was presumably time to cut to a commercial break.
The “Sangria” crooner even got to enjoy a big plate of fried calamari from a “giant squid” bright and early in the morning, courtesy of Daly, 51, who also sent his pal a video message in his absence.

“Looks like Blake is coming for your gig, @carsondaly. 😂 #poptart,” the Today show captioned the compilation video of Shelton’s best moments on Tuesday’s show, where he also performed live as part of Today‘s Citi Concert Series.
“Ha!!! 😂 watch out Carson!” someone else wrote in the comments on Instagram, while adding, “Blake is a born entertainer and I love seeing him on tv ❤️.”
