The royal family gathered as a group to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, and literally everyone was there. Except Prince Harry, who has been excluded from family functions since his never-ending rift with the royals—which has only gotten worse in the aftermath of his recent BBC interview.
According to the Daily Beast, the royal rift reflects “exceptionally poorly on Charles” and is a “painful indictment” of his authority and power. The outlet also claims that sources close to both the King and Prince William say the “principal block to reconciliation” is, in fact, William, who has no interest in mending fences with his brother.
As to why, apparently, “William’s team has argued that Charles cannot bequeath his heir a settlement with Harry that William cannot live with.” In other words, these sources are saying Wills doesn’t want to deal with Harry being back in the fold once he becomes King thanks to his dad burying the hatchet.
This falls in line with what a friend of Queen Camilla’s told The Telegraph last year, saying, “There is a public misconception about William and Harry. It is William who was often the difficult one, and it is William who is preventing his father from having a proper reconciliation with Harry. This isn’t helpful at a point in time when the country would be buoyed up by seeing them together again, as would the King.”
Kate and Will’s friend responded to this in the Daily Beast at the time, saying, “There is a grain of truth” to the statement and that “given the extent of William’s animosity to Harry, Charles can hardly roll out the red carpet and invite Harry and the kids to stay at Balmoral for the summer holidays—however much he would like to.”
