The Met Gala is called fashion’s biggest night for a reason.
The annual event has been around since 1948, but the concept of a themed gala wasn’t introduced until nearly 30 years later in 1973. Since then, celebrities have been hitting the red carpet in statement looks that often include custom couture and millions of dollars worth of diamonds.
Cardi B donned a massive diamond necklace complete with a 141-carat emerald pendant in 2024, while Dua Lipa debuted an over 200-carat diamond necklace from Tiffany & Co. at the 2023 Met Gala.
Dramatic headpieces (think: intricate halos to beaded caps) are also popular accessories for Met Gala attendees. In 2021, Iman shut down the gala’s red carpet when she arrived in a gold feathered headpiece and jumpsuit by Harris Reed that took 400 hours to create, per Vogue.
Take a look back at some of the most jaw-dropping diamond and accessory moments from over the years.
