  • During a May 6 appearance on the Impaulsive podcast, Tom Brady explained that he had some regrets about doing his May 2024 Netflix comedy roast

  • The retired football player recalled talking to his kids after the show aired, and them asking him why he did it

  • After the roast, participant Nikki Glaser said that she would apologize to Brady’s ex-wife, Gisele Bündchen, about a joke that she made at the model’s expense

Tom Brady views his 2024 roast as a parenting mistake and a learning opportunity.

The 47-year-old retired NFL star participated in Netflix’s The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady, which aired live in May 2024. It featured appearances from the likes of  Kevin Hart, Nikki Glaser and Kim Kardashian, and each star took a turn poking fun at Brady.

But during a Tuesday, May 6, appearance on Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast, the seven-time Super Bowl winner said that he has some “regret[s]” about participating in the roast because of how it affected his kids.

“It was tough on my kids for sure,” Brady admitted, later adding that it “was really hard” on his children John “Jack” Edward Thomas, 17, who he shares with ex Bridget Moynahan and Benjamin Rein, 15, and Vivian Lake, 12, both of who he shares with ex-wife Gisele Bündchen.

Brady continued, saying, “There’s some things as a parent you f— up, and you don’t realize until after. We’re not perfect parents. You’ll see as you grow up, there’s no perfect manual for it.”

Brady described the roast as something he “really enjoyed,” adding that “the performances were incredible” and that he “[doesn’t] take [himself] too serious.”

“When you were in that moment, in that theater that night at the Forum, it was electric. It was crazy. We got done, everybody was on Cloud 9. I think that moment I’ll never forget,” he said. “And then I’ll never forget when I talked to my kids the next day. I felt like a stake through the heart, understandably,” Brady added somberly.

He recalled that his kids wanted to know “what was the point” and “why did you do that.”

“They’re protective of their mom, of their dad, of everybody,” Brady explained.

During the roast, multiple jokes were made about Brady and Bündchen’s divorce.

“Tom Brady, five-time Super Bowl MVP, most career wins, most career touchdowns, you have seven rings — well, eight now that Gisele gave hers back,” Glaser said, referencing the former couple’s 2022 split during her set.

Glasser told PEOPLE in December 2024 that she would apologize to the model if she ever met her in person.

“I mentioned her in a joke, which I did question because she wasn’t there, and it’s like, ‘She’s not asking for this.’ But then I remembered that she’s the hottest person in the world, and I go, ‘She can probably handle it,’ ” Glaser reasoned.

She added that she’d heard Bündchen “wasn’t happy with some jokes” from the roast, although she wasn’t sure which.

“I think that comedy is always going to upset someone. And I think if I were her, I would’ve been annoyed too. So I give her that 100%,” Glasser noted. “And if I ever met her, I would definitely apologize for hurting her feelings if she was indeed upset about it.”

The comedian did reveal one line that the group agreed not to cross when writing jokes for the roast — they would not joke about Brady’s kids.

“We all collectively just decided not to involve his kids too much in anything because they didn’t ask for that,” Glaser said during an appearance on The Howard Stern Show on SiriusXM in May 2024.

Meanwhile, on Impaulsive, Brady admitted that although it is tough to see your kids struggle, “getting toughened up is a good thing” since it helps you gain “empathy” and proves you can overcome things.

“I gained a lot of self-confidence and self-esteem dealing with adversities and overcoming them,” he said. “[But] you don’t want to see your kids hurt because you can’t do anything about it.”

The sports star also stressed the importance of smaller moments shared with his kids, such as a conversation on a ride home from school.

“For me, as a parent, you’ve got to be available, and you’ve got to be present. That’s when the parenting happens. Not in the big moments. A lot of times it’s the small moments,” he said.
