Player 456 (Lee Jung-jae) is back to square one for the final season of Squid Game. And he’s about to be joined in the games by … a literal baby?!

The first trailer (along with new photos, below) for season 3 is finally here, and the footage teases new games for Gi-hun and the rest of the surviving players after leading a failed rebellion against Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) which resulted in the death of his friend, Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan). Gi-hun is delivered back to the dorm in a gift box normally reserved for dead bodies, and can be seen handcuffed to one of the bunk beds, making it clear that he’s force to continue playing despite his low emotional state. And in the final moments of the trailer, a baby can be heard crying.

Fans know that one of the players in this round, Jun-hee (Jo Yu-ri), is pregnant, so it seems as if we’ll see her give birth in the final season … hopefully once she’s safely out of the game.

But this is Squid Game — knowing how ruthless this show can be, it’s way more likely she’ll give birth inside the dorm and be forced to play the games while simultaneously taking care of her newborn child. The quick shot of her crying at the end of the trailer does not inspire hope for her fate. Will the Front Man give the baby a tiny version of the green track suit with the number 222 1/2?

The season 3 trailer also teases a few new games, with players receiving either a red or blue ball from a gumball machine. The mother/son duo of Geum-ja, a.k.a. Player 149 (Kang Ae-sim), and Yong-sik, a.k.a. Player 007 (Yang Dong-geun), prepare for heartbreak as they receive different colored balls for whatever the next game is, likely meaning only one of them will make it to the next round alive. Hey, it had to happen eventually!

Also in the trailer, the callous VIPs return for a masked dinner — and to make heartless wagers on the lives of the players. Gi-hun wears a red vest while slinking around corners of a hallway as Hyun-ju (Park Sung-hoon) prepares to fight during another tense game. Jun-ho (Wi Ha-joon) appears to get closer to finding the island where the games are located. And the players continue to vote whether to keep playing or call it quits to split the prize money accumulated so far rather than risk dying.

Season 2 ended on a devastating cliffhanger for Gi-hun after he tried to organize a rebellion against the Front Man and the guards. For a while, it looked like Gi-hun and his new allies in the game were going to pull it off, after they killed a legion of guards and stole their guns and ammo. But Gi-hun had no idea that Player 001 was actually the Front Man in disguise, who secretly sabotaged the rebellion and killed many of the players — including Gi-hun’s BFF Jung-bae, who was shot right in front of him in the finale’s closing moments.

“When you see the journey of Gi-hun, he tries many attempts to put an end to the game,” Hwang previously told Entertainment Weekly. “The first attempt is, he tries to get backup to come and save him from the game. That fails. The second one is through votes — he tries to persuade everybody so they can leave together. That fails as well. And then, the third attempt was to carry out the revolt, which again fails. And as a result, he loses his best friend in front of his eyes.”

Hwang knew that moment would pack an emotional punch and keep viewers interested until the final season eventually premieres. “I thought that that would be just the right moment to end the story,” he said. “Of course, those watching would feel like, ‘Oh, no. What’s going to happen next? Give us the next episode right now.’ But I think that because, at that moment, Gi-hun loses everything, he fails all of his attempts, that is when he goes through yet another character transition. So, I thought that was the best place to end the season.“

The actor behind Gi-hun was shocked when he learned that’s how season 2 ended for his character. “My first reaction was, ‘How could you end the season at that point?'” Jung-jae previously told EW. “I think the audience would be dying to know what’s going to happen next and some may be very angry, actually. Some may even curse that it’s ending on such a cliffhanger. But I realized that a lot of people nowadays actually love bold cliffhangers.”

But Seo-hwan, who first appeared as Gi-hun’s friend Jung-bae in season 1 before returning in a major capacity for season 2, laughed as he admitted to EW, “I actually really, really love that cliffhanger ending.”

The final season of Squid Game premieres June 27 on Netflix. Check out more new photos below:
