Simone Biles and her husband, Jonathan Owens, have arrived at the Met Gala as members of the event’s exclusive host committee. This week is an especially meaningful one for the Olympian and NFL player, as they’ll also be celebrating their second wedding anniversary this Thursday.
Stepping onto the red carpet, Biles wore an electric-blue bustled minidress with a matching cape. Owens opted for an all-white suit with blue accents.
Their on-theme arrival came as no surprise. On April 24, Biles revealed that she and Owens were working with “two totally different designers,” but had still “seen each other’s looks.”
“We’re trying to still be cohesive and still on brand with the theme of the night, but I’m really excited about it,” she told E! News at the Time100 Gala.
At the time, Biles also admitted she was still deciding between two final looks. “It is a custom dress,” she hinted. “But I have two options right now that we’re teetering back and forth with.”
Tonight is the couple’s first joint Met Gala appearance. Biles made her debut at the event in 2021, wearing an 88-pound Swarovski crystal-embellished ensemble by AREA x Athleta.
The couple’s joint presence this evening caps off a landmark year for both of them. Biles earned multiple gold medals at the Olympics in Paris last summer, and she was recently honored with a TIME100 Impact Award for her leadership both inside and outside the gym. Her 2024 Netflix docuseries, Simone Biles Rising, traced her journey stepping back from the Tokyo Games and documented how her personal growth intersected with a larger cultural conversation.
“When kids watch this, they’re going to want to hear from people who look like them and see people who look like them,” Biles told Netflix’s Queue in a recent interview. “To mesh both worlds together—the Black community and the gymnastics community—was important so that kids can see, Simone’s not the only one, look how many came before her.”
Owens, who currently plays for the Chicago Bears, has been a steady presence throughout it all. “Our relationship is a really big part of my life,” Biles added.
