Wedding bliss quickly turned into a wedding nightmare for one Texas bride.
Star Torres found herself in a hospital room instead of a honeymoon suite after a “freak accident” on the dance floor left her seriously injured at her wedding on Thursday, April 17, according to NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth.
She and her husband Jacob Torres’ wedding initially went off without a hitch. They exchanged heartfelt vows during their ceremony and even had a sweet first dance and cut their cake during their reception.
“The venue was breathtaking,” Star told the news channel. “It was on the smaller side. We had about 130 people. It was beautiful. We’re really trying to focus on all of the good moments throughout that day before everything else happened.”
Following those key wedding moments, disaster struck. Star and Jacob had split off briefly to celebrate with their guests. While Jacob was making the rounds and chatting with guests, Star was dancing with friends when she took a hard tumble.
“It was really a freak accident,” Star recalled to the outlet. “I just took a bad fall … dumb, just not paying attention. I fell headfirst onto the concrete floor and cracked my skull.”
She was quickly transported to the hospital and put in the intensive care unit after doctors determined that she had fractured her skull in the fall. They reportedly monitored her for a possible brain bleed for four days and then she was later transported to the hospital’s trauma wing.

Photos shared by the couple with NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth showed Star wearing a neck brace — still in her wedding make-up — as she rested in a hospital bed. Her new husband told the outlet that he didn’t leave her side at the hospital.

“This is what marriage is all about, in sickness and in health, you know, ready to act,” he said. “You know, a lot of people were asking about me, and I was like, ‘I’m fine. I’m not the one who just took a fall.’ ”
“More so, it’s about wanting to be there for my wife and making sure she’s okay was like the biggest thing for me,” he explained.

The newlyweds continued to say that the skull fracture luckily stopped just short of Star’s spine, which meant that she would be able to make a full recovery once she was cleared of any concussion symptoms.
Star told the outlet that she doesn’t remember anything from the rest of the night after stepping out on the dance floor. However, one thing she isn’t lacking is support from Jacob, who postponed starting his new job in order to take care of her.
“We’ve had a traumatic experience on what was supposed to be a perfect, beautiful day, and it’s just a constant reminder that life happens no matter what, no matter the situation, and what you make of it is everything,” Jacob said.
The couple said they have postponed their honeymoon in the meantime, and have received an outpouring of support from family and friends.
“I feel like we have been given so much support, love, financial contributions, gifts, it’s been very overwhelming in a really good way,” Star said.
