Reinaldo Herrera Guevara, former journalist and the husband of Carolina Herrera has died.
Per WWD, Reinaldo passed away on Tuesday, March 18, at his home in New York City. He was 91. He was born Reinaldo Herrera Guevara in Caracas, Venezuela, and attended Harvard University and Georgetown University. In his home country, he worked as a broadcaster on the morning news program Buenas Dias.
According to Elle Mexico, Reinaldo inherited the Spanish title of the 5th Marquis de Torre Casa following his father’s death. His mother was also a well-known socialite in N.Y.C.
Reinaldo married Carolina, who was also born in Caracas, in the Venezuelan city in 1968. They later relocated to New York, where Carolina’s fashion career took off and Reinaldo became a contributing editor at Vanity Fair. Per Elle Mexico, Reinaldo played an important role in the creation of his wife’s eponymous brand. The outlet reports that Reinaldo encouraged her to launch her first collection in 1981.
The former journalist was also an arbiter of fashion, serving as one of the decision-makers for the International Best Dressed List. After the creator Eleanor Lambert’s death, the list was handed down to four Vanity Fair alumni: Reinaldo, Amy Fine Collins, Graydon Carter and Aimée Bell.

Reinaldo and Carolina were known socialites and mingled with the N.Y.C. elite, including former Vogue editor-in-chief Diana Vreeland. They shared two daughters, Carolina Adriana and Patricia Cristina. Reinaldo was also father to Carolina’s daughters from her first marriage to Guillermo Behrens Tello, Mercedes Mendoza and Ana Luisa Bruchou.

Per WWD, Carolina, now 86, once said of Reinaldo, “I think I was madly in love with Reinaldo, when I was 15 or 16, but then he went to Europe. He has always been my great love.”

On March 18, Carter told WWD that Reinaldo was “a huge part” of his life for the last 40 years. “I adored Reinaldo and will miss him every day hereafter,” said the former editor of Vanity Fair. “He had a zest for life and a twinkle in his eye that will never be replaced. And I mean that sincerely.”
The Carolina Herrera fashion house, which Carolina stepped down from in 2018, shared a message about Reinaldo’s death on Instagram on March 19. Alongside a black-and-white photo, the house wrote, “It is with immense sadness that we share the passing of Mr. Reinaldo Herrera Guevara.”
The message continued, “Reinaldo Herrera Guevara was a keen cultural observer, a man of innate elegance and charm with a vibrant wit. Above all, he was a beloved family man. He reveled in his role of husband, father and grandfather, and was a proud supporter of the Carolina Herrera brand since its founding in 1981.”
“Mr. Herrera Guevara will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all of us at Carolina Herrera and Puig. We send our deepest condolences to Carolina Herrera and the Herrera family,” the note concluded.
