Nicole Kidman leaned into a dramatic beauty transformation as she stepped out at the 2025 Met Gala on Monday night. With four decades of red carpet expertise under the belt, the Australian actress is constantly serving up iconic looks—and this year’s biggest night in fashion was no exception. In a nod to the evening’s “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” theme, Kidman paired a two-toned mullet hair cut with a custom Balenciaga Couture dress as she walked the Met Gala steps on May 5.

The red carpet veteran turned heads in the sculptural organza gown, which hugged her figure with a Basque-style bodice. Trimmed with scalloped picot detailing, the structured corset was accentuated with a silk bow belt around her waist and flared out into a dramatic silhouette, thanks to multiple layers of petticoats and exaggerated hips. As Kidman posed on the red carpet, she showed off the full skirt’s tilted shape as well as another silk bow belt around her hips.

Kidman’s Met Gala dress—which was inspired by a gown from Cristóbal Balenciaga’s 1952 collection—took 700 hours to make, thanks to the hand-picoted and quilted interior as well as the many layers of tulle undercoats. The Eyes Wide Shut actress paired her elegant ode to dandyism with a black lace scarf around her neck, as well as wrist-length gloves. A pair of black crepe satin ankle heels peeped out from underneath her full skirt. Diamond jewelry glistened at her earrings and around her wrists.

Kidman wore her newly-chopped blonde hair in a side-parted style with a black velvet bow, accentuating the darker hue underneath. Smokey eyeshadow, rosy blush, and a dark peach lip finished off her Met Gala transformation.

Kidman’s menswear-inspired Met Gala look subtly plays off of the dreamy archival bi-tonal gown she wore for the Met Gala’s “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” theme last year. The Perfect Couple actress looked like a Disney princess as she posed on the red carpet in a white strapless 1950s Balenciaga gown created by Cristobal Balenciaga.

Layers of black ruffled tulle—which were painstakingly embroidered for 800 hours with hand-frayed organza to affix 3000 feathers to the dainty material—flared out at the front of her white silk dress as well as out from underneath her long train from behind. Wearing her blonde hair in silky loose waves, Kidman complemented her gown’s sweetheart neckline and full-skirt with a pair of white matching opera gloves and a diamond cuff bracelet.
