Bella Thorne is reacting to some criticism she received for proposing to her fiancé, Mark Emms, two years after he popped the question.
On Saturday, Aug. 16, the singer and actress, 27, shared a post on Instagram, revealing that she got down on one knee and proposed to Emms. Alongside a series of photos and clips of the proposal, she wrote, “3 years ago we met, 1 year later he proposed, Now 1 year later so did I 🥴❤️.”
In the clips, Thorne can be seen kneeling in front of the film and television producer and presenting him with a ring in a box. Photos show the romantic setup she orchestrated for the moment, including lots of candles, colorful flower arrangements and red heart-shaped balloons with the message, “I Love You.”
While many of Thorne’s followers shared their support and well-wishes in the comments, one person wrote, “Ok ladies let’s not normalise this, okay?” The comment garnered nearly 80,000 likes.
On Sunday, Aug. 17, Thorne reacted to that and similar comments in a post on her Instagram Stories. Over a photo of Emms with a dog on his lap, she wrote, “The comments on my post are hilarious!!”
She continued, “Totally split down the middle. Half of u are like let’s not normalize proposing to your partner — other half is like f— yeah girl power this is the sweetest!!”

Emms first proposed to Thorne in May 2023 at her home in California, Vogue reported at the time. He gave her an emerald-cut diamond ring, according to the outlet.
At the time, Thorne already had a vision for her wedding, telling Vogue she wanted to marry in the countryside in the U.K., where her fiancé is from.
The bride-to-be also shared her wish to put on a little fashion parade on the big day by wearing not one but four dresses. “Every bride does not need one gown, but four!” she said.

Reflecting on when she first met Emms at Cara Delevingne’s birthday party in Ibiza in 2022, the Shake It Up! star told Vogue, “It was love at first sight as the sun rose.”
