Actor Giancarlo Esposito, 67, debuted a different look while walking the red carpet for the New York premiere of the upcoming Spike Lee-directed film, Highest 2 Lowest, which premieres on August 15.
While at the event, held on August 11, Esposito, known for his roles in Breaking Bad, The Mandalorian, and The Boys, wore a black shirt under a black wool blazer and white slacks. He opted to wear bold thick-framed glasses, which changed up the appearance of his face. The actor also grew out his silver hair, which is usually shorter.
While Esposito isn’t in Highest 2 Lowest, he’s starred in other Spike Lee projects, like Do the Right Thing and Malcolm X.
While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at the August 11 Highest 2 Lowest red carpet, Lee referenced that Highest 2 Lowest, which stars Denzel Washington as David King, is a retelling of the 1963 film High and Low , directed by Akira Kurosawa and written by Ryūzō Kikushima. While speaking to the publication, Lee said he became familiar with Kurosawa and Kikushima’s works while he was at NYU’s graduate film school. He also said Washington approached him with the script for Highest 2 Lowest, written by Alan Fox.
“[Washington] had gotten the property and he had sent it to me. He said, ‘Spike, I read the script. If you like it, let’s go.’ I read it right away. Called him up. I think the next day, I said, ‘Let’s go.’ It happened like that,” said Lee during the interview.
Lee also said he was happy to reunite with Washington for Highest 2 Lowest, 19 years after their last film together, Inside Man.
“It’s been great,” said Lee during the interview.
During a joint August 12 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, alongside Lee, Washington explained why he knew the director would be interested in Highest 2 Lowest. He noted that the thriller takes place in New York, where Lee has long resided.
“The material came to me first. When I read it, I said, ‘This is so New York.’ I called Spike immediately,” said Washington during The Hollywood Reporter interview.
