Based on KJ Dell’Antonia‘s New York Time bestselling book of the same name, The Chicken Sisters was a Reese Witherspoon Book Club selection and later became a series on Hallmark+. The show later had its linear premiere in March 2025 on Hallmark Channel, and fans were not only craving fried chicken, but more episodes! What happened on the Season 1 finale of The Chicken Sisters?
In the first season finale of The Chicken Sisters, Gus’s (Wendie Malick) hoarding problem was on full display as her stuff is up for grabs at an estate sale. Gus later sets her place up in flames before fainting. We later find out that Gus had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and had been keeping it a secret from everyone.
It’s an “us against them” mentality when both sisters unite against one common enemy: Frank, Jr. (James Kot). It’s Frannie’s vs. Mimi’s in the Kitchen Clash Showdown with the King of Chicken, Mr. Chicken (Clifton Murray), judging the competition. But what everyone doesn’t know is that the King of Chicken is not only the show’s biggest advertiser, but also has a side deal with Frank, Jr. in hopes of creating a new franchise. So guess who wins Kitchen Clash, despite being the underdog? This gets Sabrina’s (Rukiya Bernard) goat, and she quits the show.
Believing they have to close Mimi’s down for good since they didn’t win the prize money, Gus, Nancy (Lea Thompson), Amanda (Schuyler Fisk) and Mae (Genevieve Angelson) are gathering up their things. Suddenly, Shauna (Caitlin Howden) comes in and surprises them all, becoming their new investor in “The Chicken Sisters.”
Amanda leaves Frank and tells Sergio (Ektor Rivera) she needs to be on her own for a little bit, at least. Nancy invites Gus to move in with her. The Chicken Sisters plan a grand opening, but now with a little competition from a new business.
What happens in the Season 2 premiere of The Chicken Sisters?
With their two restaurants finally united as “The Chicken Sisters,” Gus, Nancy, Amanda, and Mae are thriving…until their episode of Ultimate Kitchen Clash premieres. The episode is also directed by star Lea Thompson.

Season 2 of The Chicken Sisters premieres on Sunday, Aug. 10 at 8 p.m. ET on Hallmark Channel and can be streamed the next day on Hallmark+.
