Kelly Clarkson’s fans are sending love to her family after Brandon Blackstock — her ex and the father of her two children — died at age 48.
Blackstock, who was married to Clarkson for nearly seven years, died on Thursday, Aug. 7, after living with cancer for more than three years. The day prior, Clarkson announced she was postponing her residency because he had been “ill” — and fans flooded her comments section with messages of support.
“Those kids need you more than we do! Go be the best momma! Best wishes to all involved ❤️🙏,” one fan wrote of their kids River, 11, and Remington, 9. Another fan commented, “Kelly, your family, esp your kids come first! That’s what makes you so special!”
Another fan wrote, “My deepest condolences to you, the kids & your whole family. I’ve always admired you for doing the right thing regardless of things that have happened to you. Your true fans know you, love you and will be here for you until the end. Sending you the biggest hug. 🫶🏽”
In her Aug. 6 announcement, Clarkson wrote, “Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas. While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them. I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding.”
A representative for Blackstock’s family confirmed the news of his death in statement to PEOPLE the next day.
“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away,” the statement read. “Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”

In addition to River and Remington, Blackstock also had two children from a previous marriage, Savannah and Seth, and became a grandfather in 2022 when his eldest child Savannah gave birth to a son, Lake.
Clarkson married Blackstock in October 2013. The “Since You’ve Been Gone” singer then filed for divorce in 2020, and it was finalized two years later.
“I think the thing about divorce — especially having it publicized, and people thinking they know the whole thing — the hardest part of that is, like, it wasn’t an overnight decision,” Clarkson said of the breakup in 2023. “I wanted to make it beautiful. I wanted to make it awesome. I wanted to make it everything it possibly could be, and sometimes that just doesn’t happen.”
