Pete Davidson has been getting a lot of parenting advice now that he’s expecting his first baby. However, his new costar Eddie Murphy had an interesting approach to sharing his wisdom.

During a Wednesday, Aug. 6, appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the 31-year-old Saturday Night Live alum, who has a little one on the way with girlfriend Elsie Hewitt, revealed that he’s had a lot of dads reach out to him to talk fatherhood.

However, his The Pickup costar was more hands-off.

“Eddie was like, ‘I got no advice for you.’ He goes, ‘You’re on your own,’ ” Davidson revealed, explaining, “He was like, you know, ‘You can’t tell anyone how to do…’ You know, you’re gonna do your own thing.”

Host Seth Meyers agreed, adding that parenthood felt instinctual.

“It’s like a refreshing moment when you’re like, ‘Oh, I think I know what I’m supposed to do here,’ ” he told the comedian.

Despite that, Meyers did impart some wisdom, telling Davidson when he would feel like the “best” version of himself as a dad.

“Here’s something I can tell you about being a dad, which you will be a little ashamed of. Like, when your friends are around, you realize, ‘Oh, I’m being a little better than I am when people aren’t around.’ Like, when you’re an observable dad, that’s kind of your best dad.”

He confirmed that it is like “performing” since they were “thespians.”

“We will take on the role of father, and then your friends leave, and your kids are like, ‘What was that?’ They’re like, ‘More of that, please,’ ” Meyers joked.

Davidson made it very clear that becoming a dad was a huge moment, saying, “I’ve never been more excited for anything.”

He also joked that he was looking forward to using his child as an excuse to get out of doing things. On the flip side, he was “excited to see how full of s— my friends are that have kids.”

He explained that he questioned whether they were being honest with their excuses to get out of plans or if it was all an act.

On the topic of working with Murphy, Davidson said it was a dream come true.

“It was an absolute blast. I still can’t believe I’m in it,” he raved, saying that he was “freaking out” when he found out that he got the part.
