Author Colleen Hoover’s book Regretting You is being adapted for the big screen
The movie stars Allison Williams as Morgan Grant, a mother raising her teenage daughter when a family tragedy complicates their lives
Regretting You will hit theaters on Oct. 24, 2025
The first look for the next movie based on one of Colleen Hoover’s books is finally here.
In August 2025, the trailer for Regretting You arrived one year after Deadline reported that Hoover’s 2019 contemporary romance and young adult crossover novel would be adapted into a movie.
The film, which will be released in theaters on Oct. 24, 2025, stars Allison Williams as Morgan Grant, a young mother who puts her ambitions on hold to raise her teenage daughter, Clara, played by McKenna Grace.
But when a family tragedy puts more strain on their already complicated relationship, they must figure out how to navigate life together.
“When I read Regretting You I was captivated by the characters and knew we needed a partnership with an amazing cast to make it real,” director Josh Boone told Deadline. “Our plan is to make a classic that mothers and daughters will cherish for years to come.”
Other confirmed cast members include Scott Eastwood and Dave Franco, who told Collider that he was excited to “try something new” by entering the “Colleen Hoover-verse.”
“I’ve never done a straight drama that’s kind of this romantic thing, too,” the Neighbors actor told the outlet in January 2025. “It’s scary to put yourself out on a limb and try something new, but I think that’s also the reason to do it.”
Here’s everything to know about Regretting You ahead of its October 2025 release date.

Regretting You follows the aftermath of a car accident that kills two of the main character Morgan’s family members. Their deaths in turn reveal devastating secrets, lies and regrets that she and her daughter Clara must overcome together. It’s not clear how closely the film adaption will follow Hoover’s original novel, but the author is serving as an executive producer, per Deadline.
After reading the book, Grace told Good Morning America in December 2024 that she was inspired by the mother-daughter relationship between her and Williams’ character.
“It’s a love story, but it’s also about a mother and a daughter and the way that they’re dealing with their grief,” the I, Tonya actress said. “My character has a lot of anger toward herself and toward her mother. I think it’s beautiful to watch her through that and end up growing closer together.”
