A team of medics are being praised as heroes for keeping steady hands during surgery when a massive earthquake struck off the coast of Russia.

Oleg Melnikov — Kamchatka Health Minister — released the footage of the surgery, which was performed at the Kamchatka oncology center in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. In the clip, four members of the medical staff are seen carefully securing their patient and the surrounding surgical equipment as the room begins to violently shake.

“Despite the danger, the doctors remained calm and stayed with the patient until the very end,” Melnikov wrote on Telegram, per Reuters, noting that the patient is no longer in danger.

The minister boasted that the four health care professionals involved are “heroes in white coats.”

Kamchatka Governor Vladimir Solodov said the doctors will be presented with state awards for courage and dedication.

On Tuesday, July 29, the massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake was recorded at 7:24 p.m. E.T., about 78 miles east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said in its updated assessment, USA Today reported. The agency said the earthquake was shallow, at a depth of about 11 miles.

It’s likely among the top six strongest earthquakes ever recorded, according to The Washington Post.

At least six earthquakes subsequently occurred near Kamchatka, the USGS said. Their initial readings had magnitudes of 6.9, 6.3, 5.4, 5.7 and 5.6.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said no casualties in Russia from the earthquake were reported.
