Jensen Ackles Gives Insight Into His ‘Tracker’ Fate Amid Major Cast Shakeup originally appeared on Parade.
Tracker is undergoing a bit of a shake-up ahead of its third season on CBS.
The Justin Hartley-led drama is losing most of its core cast ahead of the fall premiere, leaving only two main characters in place with Hartley’s Colter and Fiona Rene’s Rennie Greene.
Eric Graise, who plays tech whiz Bobby, and Abby McEnany, who plays Velma, are both leaving the series. It’s unclear if Legacies star Chris Lee, who was tapped as Randy, a substantial recurring role in place of Graise, will return.
And naturally, with so much in flux, audiences are concerned about Hartley’s brother on the series, Russell, played by guest star Jensen Ackles, who appeared in two episodes last season.
The Supernatural alum has a lot going on with his hit Prime Video series’ Countdown and The Boys, but in a recent interview with TV Insider, he gave insight into Russell’s fate, namely that there’s a huge Shaw family backstory that the series has yet to dive into.
“There’s a lot of stuff to uncover there,” he told the outlet.
And while he can’t say for certain whether or not he’ll be returning for Tracker Season 3, Ackles noted that there’s “probably a good chance” of Russell re-appearing on TV screens.
At the end of Tracker Season 2, Colter was finally untangling what happened the night of his father’s death, learning that while a man named Otto (Alex Fernandez) did push his father off a cliff, he was acting on behalf of Colter’s mother, who asked for his help.
The series also stars Manifest’sMelissa Roxburgh as Colter and Russel’s sister, Dory, who viewers also hope to see again.
Only time will tell—but the good news is that we’re finally getting into the meat of Colter’s story.
Tracker will return for a third season on Sunday, October 19, at 8/7c on CBS.
