Jamie Lee Curtis Is ‘Very Excited’ About Her ‘Murder, She Wrote’ Reboot: ‘It’s Happening’

Jamie Lee Curtis confirmed that her “Murder, She Wrote” reboot movie is in the works on the carpet for “Freakier Friday.”

“Oh it’s,” Curtis began, taking a big dramatic pause while speaking with Entertainment Tonight. “Happening.”

“We’re a minute away. But very excited. Very excited,” Curtis continued. “But I’m tamping down my enthusiasm until we start shooting. I have a couple other things to hustle and then I’ll get to enjoy that work.”

In December 2024, Variety reported that Curtis was being eyed to lead Universal’s “Murder, She Wrote” film adaptation. The “Freakier Friday” star will take on the role of Jessica Fletcher, the crime writer turned detective that was played by Angela Lansbury in the original series.

Per reporting, the script is from Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo. Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Amy Pascal are producers.

Lansbury’s original “Murder, She Wrote” series ran for a whopping 12 seasons from 1984 to 1996. The series peaked at a reported 40 million viewers a week, and still averaged around 25 million per episode through the end of its run. Four television films followed over the immediate years. While recent decades have seen video game and literary adaptations, the property has remained largely dormant on the screen since 2003.

Of the projects Curtis is hustling, “Freakier Friday” is preparing to hit theaters on Aug. 8. Speaking at the Las Culturistas Culture Awards, Curtis told Variety about reuniting with Lindsay Lohan for Disney’s comedy sequel.

“She has taught me so much. She has her team, where her two people would be standing on either side of a camera holding a big light,” Curtis said. “It’s Lindsay lighting — that would have been good branding — they hold lights so that we look better. So, I’ve learned a lot from her already. We had a good time. We love each other.”
