The rare outing marked a special milestone for Depp, who directed the new biographical drama—the first movie he’s directed in over 20 years.
The last time Depp was in the director’s chair was for the 1997 film The Brave, starring Marlon Brando.
His new film is based on Dennis McIntyre‘s play about Italian painter Amedeo Modigliani, played by Riccardo Scamarcio. The movie also stars Al Pacino, who plays the role of art collector Maurice Gangnat.
The film is described “a 72 hour whirlwind in the life of Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani, known as ‘Modi’ to his friends, following a chaotic series of events through the streets and bars of war torn Paris in 1916,” according to the IMDB website.
Other stars who appear in Depp’s new directorial film include Antonia Desplat, Luisa Ranieri, Ryan McParland and Emily in Paris actor Bruno Gouery.
