’90s Folk-Rock Band Icon, 61, Stuns Fans With Timeless Baritone Voice: ‘Dude Still Has It’ originally appeared on Parade.
There are plenty of bands and singers that take me straight back to my 1990s high school days anytime I hear them, and one of them, no doubt, is the Crash Test Dummies. I still have distinct memories of blaring their CD (yes, CD), “The Ghosts That Haunt Me,” in my car and belting out their tunes at the top of my lungs.
And while that album feels like the definition of the ’90s to me, they also had a few hits off their second album, “God Shuffled His Feet,” one being “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm.”
The band is currently out on tour, and at a recent performance, lead singer Brad Roberts left people stunned with his timeless, totally distinct baritone voice. At 61 years old, he sounds exactly the same as he did 30+ years ago. If you close your eyes while listening to him in this video, you’d never know how much time has passed since the Crash Test Dummies’ hey day.
One person perfectly summed up how I feel about hearing this song today with, “Brings me back to high school.”
Other comments included:
“This band doesn’t get near enough love. They are super tight with great harmonies.”
“Unbelievable! Still as hauntingly beautiful as it was in ’93.”
“Memories flood back…”
“Every song they sing is a masterpiece. ‘Nuff said.”

If you didn’t listen to the band much back in the day but are convinced you recognize “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm” from somewhere, a 1990s fan-favorite movie just might jog your memory.
Ahh… when two ’90s classic collide. It doesn’t get much better.
The Crash Test Dummies have a few more shows scheduled in Canada in September. Man… I need to pay attention to the next time they do a U.S. tour.
