Disney’s dropped plenty of animated hits over the years, but few sparked the kind of long-lasting love that Zootopia did. The 2016 blockbuster racked up over $1 billion worldwide, earned an Oscar for Best Animated Feature, and has been on fans’ sequel wish lists ever since.
Now, it’s finally happening. On Wednesday, July 30, Walt Disney Animation Studios dropped the first official trailer for Zootopia 2, and within minutes, fans were picking it apart frame by frame.
The teaser kicks off with Judy and Nick—voiced once again by Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman—attending a counseling session. “You’re not enemies,” their therapist, a quokka named Dr. Fuzzby (voiced by Quinta Brunson), says. “You’re partners in crisis.”

Turns out the newly minted police partners have a few things to work through, especially after Chief Bogo (Idris Elba) gives them what he calls a “make or break” assignment. Their mission? Track down a mysterious reptile who just slithered into town. “No snake has set foot in Zootopia in forever,” Nick says. That snake, voiced by Everything Everywhere All At Once star Ke Huy Quan, is named Gary De’Snake and he’s apparently already causing problems.

The trailer then flashes through new terrain, from desert dunes to humid marshes, and plenty of blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments. In one shot, fans spotted Judy behind the wheel of a pink convertible, wearing a scrunchie, bubblegum tank, and purple striped pants—a full departure from her usual uniform.

She’s also got a new hairstyle, one that Nick immediately calls out. In a later scene, he tells Judy, “You know, this is not your worst idea.” She shoots back, “Wow, that was almost a compliment.” Without missing a beat, he adds: “Your worst idea is what you did with your ears.” Judy responds with a swift gut punch, knocking the wind out of him as she walks away unfazed.

Shakira’s Gazelle makes a quick appearance in the trailer as well. “Gazelle is back and she’s got a new look, a new song and, of course, new dance moves,” the singer said in a video shown at last year’s D23 Brazil event.
And returning favorites like Mr. Big and his daughter Fru Fru are back—this time with Fru Fru demanding Nick to kiss a giant ring pop on her finger in a cheeky callback to the original.

But it’s not just familiar faces making a comeback. The trailer also introduces a handful of new ones—starting with Mayor Winddancer, a former actor–turned–politician stallion with a flawless mane and a full PR smile.

“It’s been an absolute joy to reteam with so many actors who made the first film so special, and so exciting to expand the world with our phenomenal new cast members,” Jared Bush, who returns to co-direct the sequel alongside Byron Howard, said in a press release. “I can’t wait for audiences to see what other surprises we have in store in this brand-new adventure.”
The movie hits theaters on November 26—just in time for Thanksgiving weekend.
