Zoe Saldaña is no stranger to the Met Gala.
In fact, this year marks her eighth time up the Met Gala steps — and, like a seasoned veteran, Saldaña opted to mix different silhouettes and grayscale shades to embody the latest theme.
For this year’s event, the Oscar winner wore a Chloé dress that featured a black-striped buttoned bodice with white buttons that cut over white-striped sleeves and a white-striped skirt with button detailing that went down the dress. The outfit also featured a white bow detailing, which could be seen over her right shoulder and flowed down into a train behind her.
The gown also featured a white collar and a white train that flowed down the back. She paired the look with black platform black and white saddle shoes. To elevate the look, she also sported a new cropped hairdo with bangs, which showed off her sparkly silver drop earrings.

In October 2024, Vogue shared details on the 2025 Met Gala, announcing that Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour would be co-chairs for the event, alongside LeBron James as honorary chair. The gala, which is held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York on the first Monday in May, is a fundraiser for The Costume Institute and spotlights the museum’s spring 2025 exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” the theme for the gala.
Curator in Charge Andrew Bolton said that the exhibit, which is inspired by guest curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, explores “the Black dandy as both a concept and an identity signifier.”

The exhibit “presents a cultural and historical examination of Black style from the 18th century to the present through an exploration of the concept of dandyism,” according to a post on the museum’s Instagram.
The Met Gala’s dress code for this year is “Tailored for You,” a nod to the exhibition’s focus on menswear and suiting. This year’s event also has a star-studded host committee that includes Simone Biles and her husband, Jonathan Owens, Doechii, Regina King, Spike Lee, Usher and Angel Reese.

At last year’s “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” Met Gala, Saldaña joined a crew of Chloé-styled women, including Sienna Miller, Greta Gerwig, Emma Mackey and the label’s creative director Chemena Kamali.
Saldaña wore a sheer nude dress with delicate ruffle detailing. The look was accessorized by her stylist, Petra Flannery, who added thigh-high leather brown boots and a Chloé signature belt.
“Beautiful in my own skin; safe and comfortable in my body,” Saldaña told Elle about her Met Gala look in an interview.
The dress was not complete without Saldaña’s waved hair, styled by Aviva Perea and Cassie Russek.

Saldaña embraced the Met Gala’s 2019 “Camp: Notes on Fashion” theme when she sparkled in a bronze ’70s-style sequin gown designed by Michael Kors.
The theme encouraged bold pops of color and exciting plays on traditional silhouettes.
“Collaborating with Michael and the team was a dream,” Saldaña told Vogue in her Met Gala getting-ready diary. “They brought amazing ideas to the table, and once we ultimately decided on the look, they had such a collaborative approach to the evening.”

The one-shoulder long-sleeve gown hugged the Emilia Pérez actress’ figure with a deep-V neckline. The shoulder wrapped around Saldaña’s neck into a large bow. The whole ensemble wasn’t complete without at least 60,000 sequins.
The ’70s-themed look included a disco ball-inspired makeup look, including Swarovski crystals.
“I adore the ’70s and the combination of the sequin dress, Swarovski crystals on the eyes, and the purple orchids felt like a wonderful homage to the final look we were going for,” Saldaña told Vogue.

The 2016 Met Gala theme was “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology,” which focused on technology’s influence on fashion and included a trend of many ball gown trains. Saldaña set herself apart from the rest with a black ball gown detailed with bright yellow, blue, red, green and white feathers. She wore her hair in a long braid that cascaded down her back.
