Zendaya understood the assignment at the 2025 Met Gala, stepping out on the red carpet in a perfect representation of the night’s “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” theme. The star wore an all-white suit and hat, a nod to her bridal era.
As usual, she posed on her own. Her fiancé, Tom Holland, wasn’t seen with her during her red carpet photos.
Holland has never been to the Met Gala.
Zendaya’s attendance was confirmed in early April. Her longtime stylist and creative director, Law Roach, told E! that “we are going to be on the Met Gala steps, yes, [but] separately this year. That’s going to be really amazing. We’re doing our own thing this year, which is exciting.”
Zendaya was a co-chair at last year’s Met Gala, stealing the show in two different ensembles. She kicked off the red carpet in a Maison Margiela gown by John Galliano, accessorizing with a hand-painted veil and hat created by Stephen Jones for Maison Margiela.
Her second look closed the red carpet. She wore an enormous black gown from Givenchy’s spring 1996 haute couture collection with a dramatic floral headpiece.
Zendaya is known for these elaborate red carpet looks. Back in September, she explained during a panel that fashion is like armor for her, and it helps her cope with the pressures of fame.
“I feel like, often, I am not cut out for [the fame] part of [my work],” she began. “I do love my job; I’m so grateful. I love doing the work, I love being on set. I do love moments like this—don’t get me wrong—but I am terrified of that part of it, often.”
She said it’s not in her nature to crave attention: “I was a shy kid, always have been, and so this part isn’t natural—that is a huge reason why fashion became important to me because it became like armor to pretend to go out and do the job.”
