The Young and the Restless’ Eric Braeden has been through the ringer with his health, but he shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
The legendary soap opera star, 84, spoke to Today.com about his exercise routine in an interview published on Monday, June 23, explaining that he lives by the Latin phrase “mens sana in corpore sano.”
“It means ‘a healthy mind lives in a healthy body,’ meaning work out,” he said.
Braeden — who formerly played professional soccer for the Los Angeles Maccabees in the ‘70s — has remained focused on staying in shape as he ages, though his workouts have changed slightly. For instance, he previously ran “quite a bit,” but after undergoing surgeries for knee and hip replacement, he shifted his attention to boxing and weightlifting.

“I used to spar. Not anymore. But I still hit the heavy bag,” he said.
Braeden also continues to strength train well into his 80s, noting, “[After] a good series of lifting weights, you feel good afterwards.”
In addition to having multiple joint replacements, Braeden — who has played mogul and patriarch Victor Newman on The Young and the Restless since 1980 — announced in April 2023 that he had been diagnosed with bladder cancer.
“Needless to say, I was taken aback, but I was determined to deal with it,” he said in an Instagram video at the time.
Braeden underwent an operation to remove the cancer, but after a biopsy showed remaining cancer cells, he received six weeks of immunotherapy treatments.
In an August 2023 Facebook Live, the Daytime Emmy winner revealed that he was cancer-free, although he still had to complete some more procedures.
The following month, Braeden shared a health update with Today.com.
“I already am [in fighting shape],” he told the outlet in September 2023. “I’ve already kind of forgotten about it.”
