When Bindi Irwin appeared on her winning season of Dancing With the Stars in 2015, fans of the ABC reality series were already eager to see other members of her conservationist family follow in her footsteps. A decade later, it’s finally coming to fruition, as Robert Irwin became the first celebrity announced for this fall’s Season 34.
Since Robert’s reveal, done with panache and a live snake around the neck at Hulu’s “Get Real” event, fans have been going wild (pun unintended) over the idea of a second Irwin family member making their way to DWTS. But it does beg the question: Could we see another Irwin practicing their best paso doble?

We’re referring, of course, to Terri Irwin. The matriarch has been a cornerstone of the Irwin family, especially following her husband Steve Irwin‘s tragic death nearly 20 years ago. So, when we got the chance to speak with Robert at this year’s Steve Irwin Gala, we had to ask the conservationist: Would his mom ever be interested in going on Dancing With the Stars?
“See, here’s the problem,” the 21-year-old answered. “If Mom did it, I think she would show Bindi and [me] up.”

“All bets are off,” he continued. “If she joins me on the season, I’m getting voted out first week. She’s going to make it all the way. She’s got the groove, absolutely.”
Taking place at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on May 10, the Steve Irwin Gala celebrated the life and legacy of the legendary “Crocodile Hunter.” Funds raised from the evening support Wildlife Warriors’ global conservation projects, which range from rhino and elephant protection to tiger conservation in Sumatra to leading the world’s largest saltwater crocodile research program.
Despite the lofty praise he has for his mother, Robert immediately clarified that he’s not sure if she would want to do it, saying, “You’ll have to ask her. Who knows?” Depending on how Robert performs this fall, there may be a narrative for Terri to come on and continue the legacy her children created on the dance floor. And, if Robert’s comments are valid, we could be seeing that, when it comes to busting a move, mother knows best.
