Tournament officials released the field for next week’s Truist Championship on Friday, and notably absent from the list was Scottie Scheffler.

The World No. 1 opted to skip the signature event as he prepares for the PGA Championship the following week.

Scheffler is playing the CJ Cup Byron Nelson this week in his native Texas, and competing at the Truist Championship before the PGA Championship would have been three tournaments in three weeks — which some golfers, like Jordan Spieth and South Korea’s Sungjae Im and Si Woo Kim, are doing.

Previously known as the Wells Fargo Championship, the Truist Championship is making a one-time stop at the Philadelphia Cricket Club before returning to its usual home at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C., in 2026. Quail Hollow will host the 2025 PGA Championship.

The 72-man field includes the rest of the world’s top 10, headlined by Masters winner Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas and Sweden’s Ludvig Aberg. Four players to receive a sponsor exemption were Rickie Fowler, Keith Mitchell, Gary Woodland and Jordan Spieth.

As a signature event, there will be a $20 million purse and no 36-hole cut.
