A woman who is six months postpartum says her mother-in-law is driving her “insane” — and she’s seeking advice.
In a post shared to Reddit, the woman writes that her husband’s mom has “always played the victim” — even during her pregnancy.
“For example: we bought the baby bassinet we wanted, with our own money,” she writes. “We’ve been really happy with it but to MIL it was too expensive and a waste of our money. We did not ask for her advice and she did not pay for it, yet she felt the need to constantly criticize us for buying something we wanted and needed.”
She adds in the post that, once they revealed the baby’s name, the woman “asked us if we were sure,” and has also weighed in on breast-feeding (saying she did not breast-feed her son, and her daughter-in-law “shouldn’t either”).
The woman has also judged her for her parenting skills and pushed her to give her baby water instead of milk during the summer, even saying the baby would get “too fat” from drinking just milk.
“Honestly, I could go on and on,” she writes. “MIL will comment on/argue over literally anything. I’m so freaking tired.”
She adds that she is “very strict” about giving her mother-in-law boundaries “and sticking to them because otherwise she would drive me nuts.”
“But it seems like every time we put up a new boundary because of her crazy behavior, she finds something new,” she adds.

Other Reddit users are weighing in, with many commending the woman for setting boundaries.
“She’s just a chronic boundary invader who treats your life like her reality TV show,” writes one. “The second you shut down one problem, she’s got a fresh complaint ready. Good you’re firm, keep doubling down. Eventually, she’ll realize you’re not a sandbox for her control freak show, or you’ll just have to accept the circus and keep the distance tight. Either way, peace isn’t coming from her.”
Adds another: “You’ve set boundaries, but she keeps pushing. Maybe it’s time to limit interactions even more or have a direct conversation with her about respecting your parenting choices.”
