NEED TO KNOW

  • Violet got her first rhinoplasty in 2020, and when the result was botched, it took four more surgeries to fix it

  • One surgeon did the first three procedures, and after giving up on him, Violet sought out a new surgeon for the other two

  • Violet tells PEOPLE that she has no plans to ever touch her nose again now that she’s happy with how it looks

TikTok creator Violet admits that the nose she was born with was perfectly fine. She says she never really needed to get a rhinoplasty, but as a “creative individual,” she felt that she could improve it because she gets “bored easily.”

So in 2020, at age 27, that’s what she did.

At least, that was her goal.

“I wanted to just tweak a little bit and refine a little bit and make it a better version of my nose,” Violet, who is now 33, tells PEOPLE exclusively. “So that’s when I sought out plastic surgeons in my area [of Southern California]. I was looking for Asian rhinoplasty specialists because I thought Asian people have different anatomy, so maybe it’s best to go to someone who’s an Asian specialist.”

The surgeon she found had what she believed to be great results on social media and his website, and when she didn’t find any red flags during her consultation, she booked the surgery and went through with it. She experienced no issues with the procedure itself or the recovery, and at first, her nose looked okay, but very quickly, she realized that it didn’t look how she wanted it to.

“It looked very, very big and projected,” she says. “Eventually, that over-projection, that height started to deviate, so my entire nose started to slant to the right side.”

Unhappy with how her nose eventually healed, she called the surgeon back, and he agreed to a revision. Violet went back under the knife to try to straighten her nose, but says during her second rhinoplasty, she was “left with more deformities.”

“Later on, through the healing process, my columella [the skin between the nostrils] started to retract and my nostrils were very exposed. Everything was also still really deviated. And the original problem was never resolved. That was very tough because it’s just really crazy to get two rhinoplasties already.”

Violet talked to the surgeon again for a third rhinoplasty and she says he felt “confident” he could really fix her nose and she felt like she should trust him because he told her that he knew what went wrong, which meant he knew how to correct it. Thus, she felt like she should “just stick with him” and see it all through.

The third try wasn’t the charm for this surgeon, it turns out. While Violet says he did straighten her nose, her retraction deformities weren’t fixed.

“At that point, I was just really, really depressed, and I kind of just gave up on the surgeon because I thought, ‘There’s no way. I gave you three tries, and I still have a deformed nose when my starting point was already really nice. It’s not that hard to make a nice nose better,'” she says.

Still unhappy with how her nose looked, she began searching for a new plastic surgeon to fix her face. Rather than stay in the Southern California area, she looked in a completely new area and ended up finding someone in Miami. She turned to her friends, as well as social media, and asked for recommendations, selecting a doctor that had a positive track record.

With the second surgeon — Dr. Kim Patrick Murray — Violet says it was like “night and day” from the beginning. Her consultation was much more thorough, she felt comfortable with the whole experience and she felt confident in what the result would be.

“So I went ahead and booked the surgery. Everything went well,” she says.

Then how did she end up needing a fifth rhinoplasty? Unfortunately, her nose was so damaged from the previous three rhinoplasties that she needed the fifth rhinoplasty for further restructuring, so Dr. Murray had to do a revision for her.

“Because my skin was so damaged and scarred from my first surgeon, [the tip of my nose] healed kind of unexpectedly. So this fourth time had nothing to do with the surgeon’s skill, it was just how my body healed from all the trauma,” she explains. “The surgeon added some fascia to hide the graft because my skin was very thin in that area. Now here I am with a normal-looking nose after five surgeries. It took five tries, unfortunately, when it should have only taken one.”

Violet says she’s completely happy with the way her nose looks now and she has no plans to tweak it any further, especially after all the years and surgeries it took. She’s about six months post-op and she’s content. Though she’s a fan of plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures (she’s spent over $120K on her face), her nose is going to stay as-is now.

One silver lining with the way her surgeries shook out, despite them being traumatic “botched” jobs, is that she didn’t have to pay the full fee each time, she explains. Because they were considered revisions by the surgeon, she was paying the operating room cost, which essentially covers the nurses and the anesthesia — not the surgeons. She would have only paid the full cost for the first and fourth rhinoplasty. That being said, as she tells PEOPLE, her five rhinoplasties should have only taken one surgery in the first place.

But Violet is an advocate for plastic surgery, which is why she got her nose job in the first place. She has her own plastic surgery platform Vanity Palms, which is described as an “aesthetic community for empowered transformations” where subscribers can learn from cosmetic experts. It’s a place where she aims to help educate people about plastic surgery and aesthetics and also destigmatize the conversation around cosmetic procedures as a whole.

“There are right and wrong approaches to plastic surgery. Having done it the wrong way myself, I want my story to highlight why proper education about plastic surgery matters so much,” she says. “By sharing my experiences openly on my platforms, I hope to help others make more informed decisions.”
